13 Anti-submarine technologies not yet implemented in Uboat
The exploration of naval warfare during World War II reveals a treasure trove of innovative technologies that could be implemented in Uboat or even developed into exciting mods.

These advancements not only shaped the course of history but also provide a rich backlog of content to create engaging gameplay experiences. Here, we explore some of the key allied technologies used in submarine warfare not implemented right now in Uboat, detailing their functions.

1. Homing and Acoustic Torpedoes: These advanced torpedoes used sonar to track and home in on their targets. Their capability to adjust to the movements of enemy vessels made them a formidable weapon.

2. Magnetic Airborne Depth Charges: These were designed to detonate at specific depths when they detected the magnetic field of a submarine.

3. Magnetic Airborne Detector (MAD): The MAD system allowed aircraft to detect submarines by measuring variations in the Earth's magnetic field caused by the metallic hulls of submarines.

4. Electronic Countermeasures: These were used to disrupt the enemy's radar and communications, increasing the chances of a successful attack without being detected.

5. Balloon Barrage: Tethered balloons were deployed to deter low-flying aircraft that threatened surface ships hunting for submarines.

6. Direction Finding (HF/DF): Both shore stations and ships employed HF/DF systems to locate transmitting enemy submarines. (IT IS IMPLEMENTED))

7. Mk-24 Mine: This acoustic torpedo detonated upon detecting noise from a submarine. It was an air dropped torpedo (40 kg warhead) with 10 minutes duration circle search (12 knots).

8. Torpedo net [AND]: it was being fitted to new merchant ships as passive ship defensive device against torpedoes.

9. Merchant Aircraft Carrier (MAC) Ship: These were cargo ships outfitted to launch and recover aircraft.

10. Q Attachment: A later addition to ASDIC, providing an extra beam that looked directly down. This gave an accurate depth of the target

11. Expendable Radio Sono-buoy: Designed to maintain contact with submerged U-boats, these devices contained hydrophones and could be dropped from aircraft.

12. Twin FOXER: These towed noisemakers created sound to confuse enemy homing torpedoes aimed at ships.

13. Retro bombs: Contact bombs, used by aircraft once they’ve passed over the target. These combine MAD technology with bombs that are launched backward by rocket motors.

Conclusion

Integrating these revolutionary technologies into a game like Uboat or as a mod allows players to immerse themselves in the strategic complexities of World War II submarine warfare. Each technology not only enhances gameplay mechanics but also provides an educational glimpse into the innovations that shaped naval engagements in history.

Huff-Duff isn't in the game? Some text specifically mentions shorter radio messages reducing chances of detection, but it isn't modeled, just flavor?

The streamed torpedo nets were a failure for the most part, and I can see leaving them out, but yeah, good list mate.

Fido was one of the best ASW weapons in the war, accounting for many sub kills. But err, I don't mind it being left out....

Yes some texts specifically mention it but as far as i know there is no real implementation.

Well that's disappointing if true. I'll assume it is working anyway, for role play, and use discretion when sending messages as I've done so far.

Huff Duff is in the game. I got spotted in a convoy because I sent a ship sunk message too close. I know it worked too because a destroyer did a 180 and came steaming right towards me after I got a little notification that my message was intercepted.

I've also felt it is working with aircraft arriving shortly after sending a message, but this can also be coincidence.

Good to know, i didnt know because i have never seen a message like that. (dont usally send messages in the proximity of enemy)

it would be nice to have, i agree....

however the more advanced ASW allies have the less fun you will have in your VIIC with 3 knots submerged speed, 70NM range and 24hours of air supply as they will kill you every time you get detected

allied ASW was OP and uboats were obsolete by the end of war.....so unless more advanced subs and countermeasures would be introduced to level the playing field also for the side of a player, it would not be very enjoyable game aside for die-hard realism supporters IMO

I understand you, but developers have done a good work calibrating dificulty options for various tastes.

Of course, I meant left out of the game, not your list

I think there is a lot of time ahead of development and mods for this game so probably one day we have them.

They should take their time :)

for me, it would be lovely to have some kind of alternate history DLC, where either XXI and all newly developed gadgets are fully utilizied (prolonged war) or we have a clash between allies and USSR (cold war gone hot immediately after germans are beaten).

that way, the late ww2 era of ASW is met with countermeasures and new submarine technologies so hiding for survival is optional again! :)

don't forget the blimps (US Navy) that could fly around for very long period of time, to wait for the uboot to surface !

You want to turn UBOAT into a Roguelike?
