UBOAT
VIIC and VIIC/41 Unlockable Too Early + Training Missions Needed
U-69 was the first VIIC commissioned in 2nd Nov 1940.
U-292 was the first VIIC/41 commissioned in 25th Aug 1943.
These historical dates should be the earliest you can use that blue ticket to unlock these types.

When switching to a new U-boat, the first mission should be a specifically scripted training mission, where (historically) the U-boat was put through her paces and had her limits tested.
The mission can consist of something following:
- taking the U-boat out to friendly waters (like Baltic Sea)
- maintaining surface speed of x nmi for x hours
- staying submerged for x hours while running at x speed
- submerged torpedo attack on a mock target (stripped cargo or old warship)
- diving to maximum depth (for example 200m for VIIC, 250m for VIIC/41)

The random events that could occur:
- engine failure (fire, smoke, drop of oxygen)
- battery malfunction
- crew injuries
- torpedo launch failure
- hull leaks, when testing maximum depth
- enemy destroyer appearing during one of the malfunctions

If people intend to bury this with the usual "it's a game, deal with it" they should also consider how a good game lets you progress and improve over time and not throw everything at you in the first minutes of playing.

I wouldn't ask for a strict linear progress, but currently you can make your way from IIA to VIIC/41 already in late '40. That leaves you with 4 and a half years of sitting in the same sub while all research is also done by fall of France plus whatever it takes to research the radar warning systems in a row.

It doesn't even need to be the historical date to unlock new variants (still wondering why the realism crew has never asked for this) but there should be either more cost involved or a fixed date you have to reach first.

could be a difficulty toggle. Type IIs are not very wolf cub friendly. ;)
its a SP game dude.. if you don't wanna buy the sub till then.. DON'T
House rules. If you don't think you should have these things early, don't do it.

It's not what I "think", it is what it IS, dude.
This isn't Final Fantasy: U-boat Edition.
Sure

The game doesnt aim to be a 1:1 simulation. Lots of stuff can happen earlier than it actually did.

In a way, it is precicely that. UBOAT, like all other games, is just that. A game. Light entertainment. 10,000 hours playing UBOAT will not qualify anybody to serve onboard any submarine, historical or new, nor will it qualify anyone for a job as a museum curator.

Well, hopefully the devs have higher standards than you.
It's not about standards. It's about reality vs makebelief. Please don't tell me that you think a home pc simulator is an actual training tool for a real life job.

No, but I do think you are master at constructing strawmen. Please, tell me more what I think.

You do realize it's a game where you can easily cheat yourself from the start into the best possible gear available.. no matter how much devs would try to stop you from doing so?

And that is also perfectly acceptable since its a single player game on which you decided to spend money to buy to enjoy a few hours every now and gain.
Thus you can and should play it however you feel like it.. this fake snuffness is ridiculous.

You have zero leg to stand on.
Where exactly is this strawman that you see? If you don't want to sail a VIIC before the historical date, then heed what others have said: Don't sail the VIIC before the historical date. Me, I couldn't care less if I have a VIIC in 1939. It's a game, light entertainment.
It's just like you can research things before their actual research date... You can play the game as historically as you like, or you can create what-if scenarios

Well, they don't give you VIID and VIIC/41 right on the 1st September 1939, which means that there is at least SOME thought and consideration by the devs about historical accuracy that went into this game. Which means that hopefully they can up their standards a bit and fix this oversight.

I'm sure you can always cheat and use the console commands to get the best U-boat to win the game, so no harm done to your playstyle.

Never said anything like that - that's your strawman.
