Scapa Flow Royal oak issue

I got 2 hits on Royal oak and a few other ships, Royal oak was evacuated and almost flipped in the water but still wasn't saying sunk. I waited for it for about a day in game but still wasn't sinking, went all the way back to port to get more torpedoes, then coming back all ships have vanished, the mission objective still says 'sink Royal oak', and the green dot showing Royal Oak's position is in the same position with no ship near it. I'm just stuck, and feels like a real waste of time.

I've had the issue of the Royal Oak scene not loading before.

I loaded an autosave from when I was still a good distance away, and it loaded in properly the second time. You could also probably leave the area and return without loading, but I haven't tried that.

What I'm not sure about, being a scripted scene, is if the royal oak will retain the damage you did to it before leaving.

this just happened to me. first, i capsized it, then it flipped back over instantly, went to reload and came back and it was missing, so i just sunk destroyers and the carrier in the area and cancelled the mission. i now have the option to retry it

Same thing happened to me today. Really frustrating. Hit it with 2 torpedoes, crew evacuated (I even took some aboard), ship capsized, but rolled back over. Capsized again, superstructures touched the ground, I thought it's done, but it wasn't. Returned to Wilhelmshaven to load new torpedoes, returned to Scapa flow and the Royal Oak is completely gone. No way to end the mission. This all happened without reloading, might try an older save. Sigh.

I didn't take any chances.. 4 fish no dispersion and blew that thing out of the water.

If you move too far away from a damaged ship, it despawns.
