"Gold Recovered" achievement question
Does anyone know at what time and in which port you can get the mission to recover the gold? (No exact date needed, e.g. "early 1943" will suffice).

I'm trying to complete the game 100%, I'm currently in the year 1942 and I'm afraid I'll miss the moment when the mission to recover the gold will be available.
I think it's available in the Mediterranean Sea, but I'm not sure.

I'm asking because I'm afraid that if I sail between ports and wait for this mission, I won't be able to complete other achievements (I've been hunting for a battleship in a convoy and aircraft carriers for some time now, I haven't encountered them yet, I'm also afraid that I might be late in getting the highest distinction).

By the way, if anyone knows if starting the 1945 campaign with 90% realism setting will count the "Ace of the Depths" achievement (I assume it does, but I'm not sure).

Thanks in advance for your help.

You need to be in the Med I believe. So La Spezia, Marseille, Salamis, Pola?

After January 1, 1943. Mouse over Menu in upper right, click campaigns, and scroll down to the gold mission to see the requirements

No problem. Be careful with this one. The depth in the Med varies greatly. Be sure the ship is sunk in shallow enough water to dive the wreck. Maybe 150m is the limit.

I had it all wrong. I just returned to the Med in my campaign in early 1943 and among the first set of missions was this one. The ship is already sunk. So it must play out like the enigma mission, with the enemy standing guard. I'm going to give it a go, Now we have acoustics which might come in handy. Yeah, forget everything I said already.

I'm really glad I choose NOT to see missions like that. Would make me feel nauseous.

The mission did play out like the enigma recovery in a general sense. I fouled it up first attempt so reloaded and did it differently and managed to not drown my diver. With a slightly altered plan it all went well.

What do you mean, because it's 'Hollywood' or convoluted and no boat in the war would be tasked with sending a diver down to recover gold? Well, yeah, but it's pretty fun doing all of these, and we have years ahead of us to run free hunt stuff for entire careers :)

When I first picked it up during the beta one of the comments I had was concern about the game being 'mission based'. But it wasn't long before I found how much I like the variety on offer, and we have not been short of traditional anti-shipping patrols over the course of the career. Finding a good balance, mixing in a mining mission or agent insertion or weather station breaks it up nicely. And there's always the option to filter these out, and just do what you want, but I'm glad I didn't miss them, at least the first time.
