When do you get the second boat upgrade?

Yes, I know "some campaign goals". Which ones?

I started in a IIA and the first tonnage war campaign gave me one upgrade point that took me to a IID. But now it's been a while, and having only 5 torpedoes is getting old.

So, when is my next upgrade opportunity? I want a proper boat.

Atlantic Theater Operations and Black Pit should be the next two in line.

There is a blueprint for the 3rd mission in the Atlantic Theatre Operations running from March 1940 till 1945.

The Mediterranean campaigns actually starts earlier than the Black Pit.

In my first career I started in a VIIB out of Wilhelmshaven, with eyes on a VIIC/41. Did Tonnage War for VIIC, and then Black Pit for VIIC/41, taking the first patrol in this boat January 1942. I didn't realize at the time that ATO would give a blueprint, and anyway, anti-shipping patrols in the mid-Atlantic are more my style. ATO is special missions, like agent insertion and weather station deployment. I like these just fine, but hunting convoys in the mid-Atlantic is where its at. So yeah, probably could have done so a little earlier with ATO rather than Black Pit, but Jan '42 is plenty early for this boat, and more than a year ahead of service introduction in the war.

AS JQYong noted, The Battle of the Mediterranean also rewards a blueprint for phase two (100k). To get this one I started in U-96 (VIIC) in January of 1941, ran the strait in March, and by June was in the VIIC/41. That's six months earlier than we managed it in the first career, though I hadn't taken the fastest path. This is way early anyway, historically, so I'm cool with that.

Is there a fourth point somewhere later, or is VIIC/41 not accessible if you started in a IIA?
