Is it possible to install a snorkel on IID, or is it only for a VII? Researched but cannot install

I don't know if my game is bugged or there is just no way to install a snorkel on a IID, it wouldn't be the first time the game didn't warn me about model requirements (see: Sonar Decoy)

The snorkel research has been completed (it is no longer an option, it has been replaced with Anti-Radar Coating for Snorkels.)

I have done other upgrades so I know the drill: when I choose "I want to upgrade my boat" I am taken to the cross section view and I can see Electric Engines, Emblem and Appearance. If I hold Alt to see the hidden ones, I see Listening room added to the screen. There is no option to select Diesel Engines to install it even tho I am looking right at them; the gear icon never shows up. I have tried this several times now, reloading saves, completing missions and docking again, etc. It never changes.


Is this a bug, or is it that the snorkel can not be installed on a IID and I just wasted Rep. points?

I can't speak for the game but the only Type II ever apparently fitted with a snorkel by Germany irl was U-58, a IIC, as the test bed/prototype of the device.

I can imagine not bothering with adding a model version for an upgrade that didn't happen.

Would be cool though, if you could replace one of the periscopes with a snorkel like they did.

Where can I get the snorkel? I've fully upgraded it in the Headquarters map. Yet I cant outfit the sub with it in port.

It's an upgrade to the diesel engines. So in the upgrade menu you need to scroll to the rear in the section view.

But no, you can not install snorkel on type IIA or B.

I think the only things you can add/upgrade in the II is the battery once and the hydrophone once. Not a 100% certain on that, but certain enough to post it. You can take on upgraded torpedoes, though.

Of course, going from !!a to IIb is its own upgrade.

Ok, it looks like the consensus is that the snorkel is not available for the II.

As much as I enjoy the setting and game-play here, there really needs to be better information presented to us in game for things like this; twice now I have wasted research on things I cannot yet use, due only to lack of information. Is it so hard to add a little blurb to a piece of tech along the lines of "Only available for x-model" or something.

Guess I will have to search outside of the game before making more mistakes like this.

I hate resurrecting threads this old but this blurb on research needs to happen, please. I just did the same thing for a IID.
