My officer won't man the helm?

Am I the only one having problems when trying to assign an officer to the helm? Ie. the rudder-steering station?
I mean, he does it just fine when I am performing a surface/periscope attack - then he mans the helm in the conning tower. But when fully submerged, down in the controlroom, he just won't do it. When I assign him, the sailor at helm leaves the station correctly - but the officer just does nothing. Does not seem to be a pathing issue either, he is not blocked. He just does nothing. And after a while I get the warning - no helmsman. It is annoying.

I usually have three leader-officers on my boat, and it gets a bit crowded during submerged alarms. So I would prefer to assign one to the map, one to helm, and the last at the command station.

I just tried this on the Preview 22 :
Correct, the Officer will just stand there, while the Sailor that was manning the station gets up to leave.
Clicking the floor near the station first, and then Clicking the Helmsman Station again, seems to make the Officer obey the command.
1) Select Officer to mann the Station :
2) He will not obey the command :
3) Click the floor to bypass the last command :
4) Click the Helmsman Station, again - He will occupy the Station :

Why would you waste an officer on the helm when sailors can do it?

The real question is why don't we have the option of setting an officer as Manage Depth Steering task

Because presumably--as with cooking/other sailor stations--and officer on the station will provide a bigger bonus than a sailor. I seem to remember even seeing a tooltip somewhere stating that rudder movements would happen faster and with shorter delays when an officer is at the station. Regardless, the option is there and doesn't work. It should either be removed or fixed to avoid frustration and confusion.

Also, you CAN assign an officer to the depth steering station. It is a little wonky though, since they can only man the station when the boat is considered submerged. If you are running decks awash or in rough seas, the option won't come up until your boat dips far enough below the surface. If you assign them and the boat bobs back upwards, the order will get cancelled...which IMO defeats most of the purpose behind doing it, since I mostly want to do it to avoid that very thing.

You can assign a Officer to the Helmsman Station - I do it in every game.

Sometimes - You might have to assign him - nothing happens - click the floor near the station - Re-Click the Station too assign him.

Basically - it works except it is Not 100% working correctly.
