Blow out the front ballast tank
Hello everyone,

Is there a way or a mod with which you can only blow out the front ballast tank? How was it in real life for WWII submarines ? Would be nice to be able to surface with the bow in an emergency. That's how it was back then in SH5, for example. If you currently carry out an emergency surface, the rear part surfaces first, which doesn't look that "exciting" and feels contra productive driving forward looking down.

Why do you think that wouldnt be realistic? Every tank could be flooded and blown indivualy.
Also surfaceing with the stern first isnt realistic, unless there is lots of water in the bow.
Surfaceing level/bow first is the normal way

What you really want is manual dive plane controls... If you had a toggle for manual dive planes like you do the rudder, you could decide your angle of ascent or decent.

yes, would be great to be able to control dive planes and individual tanks (yes, i admit I want to do a barell roll and an immelmann in ly uboot :D

What I would like to see (although it would make the game immensely harder) is being able to take damage to the external fuel saddles.
Getting holes shot into the fuel tanks or welds on the fuel saddles broken by depth charges would be devastating. And the leaking fuel would make it much harder to evade enemy escorts. Not to mention the fuel loss if you manage it...

There are three options if done manually. Blow the tanks, emergency blow, and balance tanks

One thing that needs to be changed is whenever you order to surface the boat, they use emergency blow every time doesn't matter what depth you're at.

Not really, the boat would lose some fuel, thats all. The remaining fuel could be pumped in one of the other tanks. Depending on the damage it could even keept dry on the surface by redirecting the diesel exhaust into this tank and when diving the tank would be full anyway, so holes in it wouldnt matter.

The leaking fuel would be the problem... It would leave a trail for the escorts to follow.

But that wasnt what you ment with devastating, otherwise you wouldnt had add it as additional point, woulndt you?

Well it depends on what sub you're in, if you get your right saddletank shot up, and have to pump the fuel into the left you've lost half your fuel capacity. Depending on which sub you're in specifically the type IIA, that's devastating

there was a fantastic mod that added total ballast control on all tanks, and you could actually do the proper Deck Wash, but it was way before in B127 and so on...
the current state of ballast control is just atrocious...

Interesting how does an empty fuel tank affect the buoancy?
The fuel tank alone would work as a ballast tank of his own so if you just blow out the front tank all the weight of the fuel would displace too

The tank doesn't actually empty it's designed to pull fuel from the top of the tank and they will fill it with seawater to replace the fuel that has been used and maintain the same trim.
