Small suggestion: flashlights.
This -hopefully won't take much coding time but might be a nice add to the game. Currently when your lights break for -whatever reason (broken lights, distributor panel, ran out of power) it will turn pitch black in the afflicted area.

If you go into first person you can activate a flashlight. It would be nice if the AI crew turns on their flashlights (possibly make it a setting for weaker pc's? But that's a stretch)
So it's dark, but you do see SOMETHING by the beams of their flashlights. Maybe just give like 1 in 3 of them a flashlight or something.

I didn’t really think about this much, but it does sound like a neat feature to have

After an acident in the baltic when two uboats collided and one sank, they found out later that most of the crew haddent ben able to find thier way to to escapehatches,
So they started to use iluminated paint leading the way to the conningtower, thay alsso had lit up lights on the diles some even had iluminated watches and thats one thing i would like to se a wristwatch so you can set different timezones on.

Can we please confirm that historically every sailor had a flashlight? They each had re- breathers, which is not reflected in the game, so it wouldn't come as a surprise to me if the flashlights were also in that category.

well i know philips in the netherlands was forced to make handheld squeeze powered flashlights (knijpkat, or squeeze-cat in english) for the wehrmacht around 1943?. i just dont know if they went to the uboats or a different type went or something. not sure if there are records on that kind of inventory?

the germans in ww2 did have flashlights of all shapes and sizes though, so i imagine having one wouldnt be a bad thing in an enclosed space very reliant on lamps..

Taken from the U-boat manual. https://www.uboatarchive.net/Manual/Manual.htm

a), Emergency lighting.,

The emergency lighting should, in case of damage to the main lighting, point the way to emergency exits and illuminate the rooms.

For that reason there are 8 automatically switched on battery powered emergency lamps, 9 mountings for battery powered hand lamps and 8 battery powered hand lamps located as follows:

E motor room, 1

Diesel engine room, 1

Galley, 1

Petty officers room, 1

Control room, 1

Conning tower, 1

Officer and chief petty officers' room, 1

Forward torpedo room, 1,

Officer and chief petty officers' room, 1

Forward torpedo room, 1

Both types of lamps have as a power source battery type M 4/1 with output voltage of 4 V, capacity of 10.5 Ah at 0.75 A current load. The switching circuit of the battery powered emergency lamps consists of 2 relays, one connected to the starboard, the other connected to the port light circuit, so that in case of damage to both light circuits, the lamps will be automatically switched on.

b) Hand lamps.

Each boat is equipped with 8 battery powered hand lamps, whose location is shown in the preceding table. To help with location, the power switch of each lamp is surrounded by a ring covered with luminous paint.

Also, each crew member has a pocket lamp.

ive only seen this comment now but thank you a lot!

this makes my suggestion even more relevant now! that means its basically never gonna turn completely dark inside, and indeed having the crew and offivers light their flashlights would make perfect sense!
