Uh no...that makes no sense
Give us a compass, and apparently they are.
That sentence doesn't make sense. Also your argument doesn't make sense: you can already tell the compass directions using the bearing tool on the map.
You got the compass on the top of the screen. It displays bearing, hydrophone contacts, visual contacts, mission targets and when you click on the contacts it automatic turns the boat towards them. Great for combat !
Of course you have to look to the front to tell the heading cause it displays bearing not heading. Just like a real compass.
For navigation use the map!
Btw the new map compass displays situational.
Placed freely on the map it displays north zero and when put on a vessel it displays heading zero. Makes AOB calculation just a question of 2 clicks.
"Also your argument" *Snore*
Noones arguing. You've decided something in your head, and are dying on a hill for it.
Carry on, it will make no difference.
Furthermore, does the TDC really care about compass headings? It's all about relative bearings so who cares what direction either boat is heading (compass wise)?

Regardless of this, setting a heading in a given direction should be possible. So should be to give an easy order such as "turn 20º to starboard". Currently it's not possible. Or rather, it's way too complicated through the use of map tools when it should be as easy as to click a direction in a compass.
A compass is, indeed, needed. Maybe for the later stages of an attack (when you're already dialling target information into the TDC) it's not needed, but for general navigation, plotting intercepts, and general day-to-day sailing, it's must have. I hope they do add it into the game, but if not I'm sure modders will make a compass available again :).
As a further note, RPM/speed orders should also be possible, not just by standard engine orders, but by ordering them explicitly. If I want to creep at 1 knot, by Jove, I should be able to do so ;). Again, hope this feature makes it into the game, and if it doesn't, I'm sure modders will include it again :).
