UBOAT
Seriously? Still no compass???????
I can't believe it.... The most realistic simulation of a german TDC but still NO COMPASS to set a course like 324° ????? After all those years??????? The MOST FUNDAMENTAL THING on a naval vessel not modeled into vanilla????? As much as I love this game I hate it the most for exactly this kind of bs. argh

The developers wrote that a Compass with course setting will be implemented. I'm still waiting to install Uboat for this very reason.

Yeah I was able to get by before because the mod version always worked. The unstable branch is suffering without an alternative and it should certainly be included without the need to add a mod. Hopefully this is added quickly as it should be considered a requirement for "Full Release".

Alright! Let's hope for the best. Switching back to the good old stuff in the meantime ;)

With the bearing tool it can be done but it is a bit slow process. Anyway i hope they implement the compass or the mod actually works in the 1.0

Love the game but it is such a weird factor. Considering modders have done it rather faultlessly i do wonder.

Realistic navigation was never really a planned feature. That's abstracted out to the navigator's station. If they are going to add a compass they might as well add radio beacons, a sextant, and an odometer too.

Uh no...that makes no sense

Give us a compass, and apparently they are.

"Give us a compass, and apparently they are."
That sentence doesn't make sense. Also your argument doesn't make sense: you can already tell the compass directions using the bearing tool on the map.

The compass mod is a handy tool, no doubt on that, but i found out i don't really need it.

You got the compass on the top of the screen. It displays bearing, hydrophone contacts, visual contacts, mission targets and when you click on the contacts it automatic turns the boat towards them. Great for combat !

Of course you have to look to the front to tell the heading cause it displays bearing not heading. Just like a real compass.

For navigation use the map!
Btw the new map compass displays situational.
Placed freely on the map it displays north zero and when put on a vessel it displays heading zero. Makes AOB calculation just a question of 2 clicks.

"Also your argument" *Snore*

Noones arguing. You've decided something in your head, and are dying on a hill for it.

Carry on, it will make no difference.

When they model the compass, the biggest question is whether it's going to be MAGNETIC or TRUE north. Most likely it's going to be TRUE but when your ask for a heading of "324", do you want magnetic or true?

Furthermore, does the TDC really care about compass headings? It's all about relative bearings so who cares what direction either boat is heading (compass wise)?

I think this is something they need to just add in now. Why wait? Especially since the floating controls are already kind of wonky and this will probably only exacerbate those issues.

Its just utterly stupid a Captain of his ship who cant tell his crew what coarse he whants to travel at.

This is one of my frustration's too. Compass navigation is a necessity. Considering Ruby's relationship with the devs, I'm really surprised this wasn't in the Beta.

Regardless of this, setting a heading in a given direction should be possible. So should be to give an easy order such as "turn 20º to starboard". Currently it's not possible. Or rather, it's way too complicated through the use of map tools when it should be as easy as to click a direction in a compass.

A compass is, indeed, needed. Maybe for the later stages of an attack (when you're already dialling target information into the TDC) it's not needed, but for general navigation, plotting intercepts, and general day-to-day sailing, it's must have. I hope they do add it into the game, but if not I'm sure modders will make a compass available again :).

As a further note, RPM/speed orders should also be possible, not just by standard engine orders, but by ordering them explicitly. If I want to creep at 1 knot, by Jove, I should be able to do so ;). Again, hope this feature makes it into the game, and if it doesn't, I'm sure modders will include it again :).
