The entire torpoedo system in the game seems to be entirely broken. There is another thread already about this stuff. I have no idea whats going on, as people who clearly know what they're doing are barely able to get torpedo hits.
I know it doesn't answer your question but I just sank my 1st freighter after manually entering all the data albeit with map contacts on so it clearly isn't broken.
This was about 1200 metres and broadside to be fair so hard to miss from that close unless you really mess up with entering the data.
Probably a fair amount of user error or to use an IT term (RTFM) going on, me included lol
You need to be moving when firing a fish.
Check your bearing of your boat vs the TDC values.
You may find that at time of firing your boat has varied by up to 10 degrees in heavy seas.
This is the difference between the torpedo reading angles relative to a gyro wheel alignment and you calculating your angle vs a compass bearing.
Have another go and be particular about those angles. let us know if it helps.
But I could be doing something very wrong. I'm not a pro either.
I have the same problem as @P4r4n01d : whatever I do, the lever on the TDC automatically goes up when I try to fire a torpedo and the TDC disconnects from the attack periscope.
I'll check my sub's bearing though.
basically i launched without using the periscope at all.
used the UZO to pick a bearing for a structure that looked good.lets say 351. as you undock that should be like a tower thing.
map measured the distance as 335m
then switched to the TDC, that had an officer on.
aob 90, speed 0 , distance 335m, bearing 351.
on the left i clicked the 3 button that lets me pick the launch pattern. picked tube 2,
salvo of 1.
clicked the 4 button on the left to go to the bow torps.
clicked the red handle to flood the tube 2.
clicked back to the 2 image on the left to go to the tdc. and pressed the launch button mid left down.
then switched to the uzo to see my torp hit where it suppose to hit.
no targeting required.
