How to shoot using the attack periscope bearing ?
Now that the TDC mod is in the game, I've been trying to shoot torpedoes "blind" at close range using only my attack periscope.

Whatever I do, the torpedo seems to obey its own rules. I've set the right lever of the TDC down and it reads "the calculator is receaving its bearing from the attack periscope", but when I shoot the torpedo seems to have its own mind and doesn't respect the bearing of the periscope.

I tried with the TDC manned and unmanned, same thing.

What am I missing ?

If I am not mistaken, and I could be b/c I am not a pro at this, the attack Periscope will send bearing data to the TDC BUT you still need to compute range and speed after identifying the type of vessel.

Yeah but when I manually set those (like speed 0 for an immobile target and whatever the range since it becomes irrelevant (I think) for a non-moving target) I still don't get the right bearing from the attack periscope.

The entire torpoedo system in the game seems to be entirely broken. There is another thread already about this stuff. I have no idea whats going on, as people who clearly know what they're doing are barely able to get torpedo hits.

The right lever doesn‘t stay activated. As soon as you switch to the periscope, it goes up again. At least in my case…

I know it doesn't answer your question but I just sank my 1st freighter after manually entering all the data albeit with map contacts on so it clearly isn't broken

This was about 1200 metres and broadside to be fair so hard to miss from that close unless you really mess up with entering the data.

Probably a fair amount of user error or to use an IT term (RTFM) going on, me included lol

In the old version of the TDC the problem was not the TDC but the bearing of your sub.
You need to be moving when firing a fish.
Check your bearing of your boat vs the TDC values.
You may find that at time of firing your boat has varied by up to 10 degrees in heavy seas.

This is the difference between the torpedo reading angles relative to a gyro wheel alignment and you calculating your angle vs a compass bearing.

Have another go and be particular about those angles. let us know if it helps.

@Mars Mullo: i'm in calm seas and moving forward in a straight line.
But I could be doing something very wrong. I'm not a pro either.

I have the same problem as @P4r4n01d : whatever I do, the lever on the TDC automatically goes up when I try to fire a torpedo and the TDC disconnects from the attack periscope.

I'll check my sub's bearing though.

After you connect the TDC to periscope, after a while the target bearing will turn by its own like it was possessed.

It's been stated that the TDC currently receives wrong data. It's supposed to be fixed with the next hotfix.

edit: so i tested again . you NEED to have an officer on the TDC otherwise you can't use it.

basically i launched without using the periscope at all.
used the UZO to pick a bearing for a structure that looked good.lets say 351. as you undock that should be like a tower thing.
map measured the distance as 335m

then switched to the TDC, that had an officer on.

aob 90, speed 0 , distance 335m, bearing 351.
on the left i clicked the 3 button that lets me pick the launch pattern. picked tube 2,
salvo of 1.

clicked the 4 button on the left to go to the bow torps.
clicked the red handle to flood the tube 2.

clicked back to the 2 image on the left to go to the tdc. and pressed the launch button mid left down.

then switched to the uzo to see my torp hit where it suppose to hit.
no targeting required.
