Automatic Torpedo Caculation
I just recently started playing UBoat. I dont get it how you calculate a Torpedo Course by yourself, so i use the automatic calculation. Now the problem is that these Dumb Idiots on my ship seem just as good as me, when it comes to calculation. Non Torpedo is even close to the target.
So my Question is, are they normaly that bad at calculating or is there a Bug?
It also looks like when you try manual calculation they dont update the Inputs you made. For example if you already got the ship type wrong, they calculate on the base of the wrong ship.

Yes, if you feed them bad information it will throw off their solutions. Otherwise, especially once they get some skills, they should get reasonably good solutions as long as you give them time to reach 100% or very close calculations. Remember though, no matter how good their calculations they can't make up for being in a really terrible place to shoot from. They shouldn't have too much trouble if you line up perpendicular to the direction of travel of a convoy and fire with appropriate lead, but if you tell them to get you a shooting solution on a ship to your 4 o'clock coming directly at you and try to use forward tubes, that just isn't gonna work well chief.

effective torpedo range is probably smaller than you expect, also pay attention to the solution quality in percent, and use a spread of torpedoes to increase hit change at longer ranges

So can´t you reset them for a new solution on their own?
I´m new to playing PC or even any realistic UBoat SIM. When I follow the game instructions(Setting 38% realism, KI low, food on, crew on KI/auto,etc.) even their own calculation ends up showing behind the ships asses(Sorry for no technical english German: Achtern aus ; of their ship)
In manual mode the Instructions say aim for the bow(German= Bug ) of the ship, but if you aim thatt way you end up pretty much with the same outcome?
Or does the technic shown only apply to not moving targets?Because it dont say so? and when it`s done their seem to be no easy way of reajusting the angle to bow?

I don't remember how to clear a field entirely, but you can enter a new value if you know you were wrong and have better information. I think there's a way to clear it, but for that you'd probably need to watch some youtube videos teaching how to aim. Also, in general the best torpedo attack to prosecute is to fire from a perpendicular position in such a way as to try to have the torpedo impact at a 90 degree angle roughly amidship (the center of the ship). This also gives you the widest margin of error if you are off. If you think the shot is difficult or the target is weaving at all you can of course also fire a salvo of two or more torpedoes with a small spread to increase the chance of a hit.
At begining i didnt know how to do it too manually. But better play realistic as posible, is more fun, and u eventually will learn how it works

to do it manually
Bring your boat astern the target and match her course, you now have course
Draw it on the map
bring your boat abeam the target, mach speed. You now have speed.
Now go in front of her a few kilometers and about 1 km to the side of her course and face 90 degrees and get some torps ready with her course and speed put into the data. Win.
For more than one ship in a convoy since the speed and course will be the same, you just need to calculate range for each by ID and mast height and remember the empire ships can vary by some % is specs either way, so don't sweat it if you miss, it is life

Over 650 hrs in game, hundreds of thousands of tons sunk...

I have manually calculated precisely ZERO torpedo solutions. ALL of them, were done automatically, buy the ships officers. That's their &%T*^**&^% job.

Same here. I'm the skipper. My team does the maths for me ;)

Valid way to play. By release vanilla will have a fully modeled TDC, but none of it is required for use. I'm glad both styles are supported.

absolutely. There have been times when I was sore tempted, like when I enter an enemy harbor at night, my target has a Spd of 0, and a bearing of 0; and it takes my officers 10 minutes to find a solution...I'm sore tempted to keel haul them. lol

Try this easy system it work great for me.
If you can approach the target, btter if the angle is 90°
1. stop the UBOAT
2. draw a line of its course
3. use the tool and calculate the angle between the tip of your UBOAT and the ship's same as in the pic

At this point you have to set the tdc with the data.
For merchant you don't need to calculate the speed, I use a standard 13 knots, the angle is already sho in the map, I always add 1° for example if you read 90° se as 91° the distance also is show in the map so you have all the data.
At this point wait when the tip of the enemyy ship arrives at the intersection and fires one, or better, 2 torpedoes

Same for multiple target, you just need to update the tdc every time you change target, don't forget that the enmy will probably change course once they detect you or when you will hit the first one so start from the furthest ship

First mission i sunk more than 50k

How do you get the TDC in English? If possible?

around 143 hours, playing in realistic and hard since the beggining. I can calculate torpedos, is not extremely hard. And ships can try to avoid

didnt say it was hard. Said it's the Officers job to do it.
