Net Cutters as a port modification
Is there currently any plans to add net cutters as a researchable modification for Type VII boats? It would be great for those of us who want our subs to look more like early to mid war boats like the U-47, U-96 (film version), etc.

That U-96 in movie has a net cutter is actually a film error, the real U-96 got his net cutter removed early in '41, between the 3. and 4. patrol.
And U-47 was a Typ VII B not a C like U-96.

Another movie error is the saw fish on the conning tower, at this time it had the bull of scapa flow, the symbol of the 7. u-flottila, individual malings werent allowed anymore since may '41, and befor that U-96 had the bull on the front and the fish on the sides.

Many pictures of u-boats with the saw fish are just boats of the 9. u-flottila after mid '42.

I like it when the boat looks like the one from the movie though

I am aware it is a film error, hence my distinction in the initial post, "(Film version)"
I am also aware that 47 was a VIIB boat. The point remains that loads of early war subs had them, and it does make them a tad more menacing looking, so it would still, nonetheless, be a neat addition to the Type VII's we have ingame.

being able to research/install a net cutter to make it easier to go under the submarine nets at Scapa Flow would be cool.

Problem with that was those net cutters were never effective.

Don't care. they look cool. The more stuff I can do to my U-boat the happier I am. If they are useless they should be cheap to equip.

Unless they have added new behavior in a patch since the last time I dealt with them. The anti submarine nets don't seem to be finished. They don't have "physics" built into them. They won't ride up your jump wires. You can't deform them with your submarine when you hit them. You don't get tangled in them. When you snag them you don't drag them. etc

I do agree with you there. Though like the spikes on German helmets in WWI, they represented materials that could've been put to better use.

The nets don't cause a problem at ScapaFlow.
They just make noise as you sail over them.

And that's why you should go under it.

The nets go down to the sea bed at scapa. So all you can do is sail over them.

Nope. There's a spot with a depth of ~37m up to the north, around 1/5 down the length of the net from north to south. You can easily slip under with enough space above and beneath your boat.

Well I missed that. I will have to check that out sometime. Cheers.
