I suppose you could try using the deck gun and attack from behind if the enemy doesn't have rear guns
Well said.
Just stock on torpedoes and make sure you're ahead of the convoy NW of it aprox 50-70km to give you time for 2nd attack if your first attack fails.
Very RNG dependent too, sometime the escort destroyer do most of the job, sometime they don't.
I usually manage one or two by torping the bigger ship then try to gunned down the smaller one while using the reverse gears (rip to all those man overboard).
Overall, just save scum to get a patrol mission instead lol.
The 1934 is German Support Destroyer of the convoy... and if one reads the radio message you get when you are too near the convoy, it states that you might be misstaken for an enemy... (and they will hunt you until you are recognized or sunk/slip away) ... Found out the hard way... If they hunt you and you draw them away from the convoy, the convoy stops until their destroyers are back... (Held up my completion of the mission as I approched Bergen...)
However these small and fast targets can be tricky to hit, but 1 hit will be enough. With a dud torpedo you won't get a second chance because the corvette's profile is just too small to make a hit at bow or when it circles around, but then the convoy's warship will take care quickly which my savescum has shown (I reloaded but didn't fire, I wanted to see what happens against the type 34, well...it was short for the corvette...)
Historically, the Weserübung had major torpedo problems with most uboats.
if you just exit port. and stop your ship. and go max TC.
4/5 times it will fail
1/5 times or so it will suceed.
reload a few times until it succeeds.
especially if you are on the dingy.
i've had 5-7 ships spawn on me while i was with the dingy , not fun.
Also trying to kill them while they are engage with the convoy.. not exactly possible, you need to intercept them before they start combat moves.
i usually rush T5s so i get a fighting chance.
Then engage them outside of the convoy.
I usually shadow the convoy on the left hand side in front. And i've had enemies spawn to my left, on a left to right intercept course for the convoy.
Even if you engage and make them hunt you, give some time for the convoy to power through.
Though dangerous and seldom advised, you may be able to lure enemies away. It may require, counter-intuitively, making lots of noises(which is 'unheard of' in usual simulations) as this maneuver shifts the paradigm entirely from having torpedoes(which may have been exhausted from earlier endeavors) to having fuel, a bit or maritime "know-how', and a hardened crew who puts their captain a certain level above.
I imagine the enemy ships, from their perspective, knows that there is an uboat lurking constantly at range but always out of reach — it would certainly break the morale of the toughest skippers and shift attention from the mission to the imminent threat. For them, perhaps, to fail the mission may mean stern consequences back home, but to not address what is immediately before them — they may not even have the luxury to come back at all. You may not have torpedoes, but they don't know; a high stakes gamble.
That's what i described.
It's one of the ways to "cheat".
Unsure if it's introduced by the devs as means to skip the terrible missions or not.
There are ppl claiming they did this or that but i have yet to see a video of an actual successful combat against 5+ warships in the escort mission without T5s.
Sometimes you get lucky and spawn a single corvette, or they don't spawn at all.. or they spawn far away and miss the convoy.
That's not what it's supposed to do .. so in a sense you landed on the "cheating" part without noticing.. since there was no combat.
I've done the norway a few times and the only way to actually do it is rush T5s from the game start.
And pray you don't get that many warships spawning.
So if ppl wanna just skip over that missions to get it moving .. i'd give them the pass.
Tried in the dingy without T5s and isn't possible if they spawn correctly.
Again some ppl claim this or that .. I'd seriously be curious to see what tactics ppl use on high , realism , no cheating combat against a spawn group of warships in that particular type of escort mission.
As in more than 1 ship.
If there are such videos around i'd appreciate a link.
