Doesn't take too many torps anyway, two can break a carrier's back if used right leaving two for other targets.

As far as tonnage (debrief) they mean nothing.
In the Medals Award Ceremony. (the moment you dock) Transports are 1 to a few points. Carriers are worth 75 points. You'll have to go on 10+ missions to accumulate the points you acquire for one carrier. I bet you also completely ignored how much currency that you recieved when you called it in. Yes, you get $$ for sinking warships. If you're not paying attention the moment you call it in, you'll miss the massive payday you recieve for it.
It isn't "about being cool" anything. You're rewarded 2x of the 3 steps.
