Constant crashes
Just bought this game, can't even play it because it crashes in the main menu and on the off chance I actually get into a game it instantly crashes when I click on anything. This game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ embarassing.

same, game crash on launcher

HI,

check if there is a crash dump and upload it somewhere.
Check your Steam library to see if the installation is OK. No, there was no update.
If the launcher crashes, post the contents of the launcher log file.

Launcher log
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Deep Water Studio\UBOAT\Launcher\error.log

Cheers Ruby

ive had the same issue all week, it was working fine playing 4k 165hz, but then sometime beween Monday and Tuesday, game would crash when starting up the launcher..

I just helped someone solve their problem of crashing when booting up the launcher over the Discord server and the solution for them was disabling the Steam overlay.

Let me know if that helps.

It's off, i also made sure to disable the nvidia shadowplay overlay and the xbox app for windows and it still crashes. Any suggestions?

Yes, please share your output log which you can find here
C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\LocalLow\Deep Water Studio\UBOAT\output_log.txt

And your launcher log which can be found here
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Deep Water Studio\UBOAT\Launcher\error.log.

As well as your crash report log which can be found here
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp\Deep Water Studio\UBOAT\Crashes

Please use PasteBin to make things easier and drop a PasteBin url for each of the available logs. And if you haven't already, try validating your game files through Steam
  1. Go to your Steam library
  2. Right-click on Uboat
  3. Select 'Properties'
  4. Go to 'Local files'
  5. Click on 'Verify integrity of game files'

I know how you must feel but at the end of the day it's still his money and his prerogative. But if anyone else experiences a crash, now you know where to find your crash logs.

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp\Deep Water Studio\UBOAT\Crashes

You can upload them with PasteBin or drag & drop them directly into the #bugs channel on the Discord server. And myself (or someone smarter) can try to help.

When I go to the UBOAT folder, i don't see the option for Crashes

If you don't see a crash log that's fine, just move on to one of the other logs

These are all the suggestions I can think of, off the top of my head:
  1. Update your video card drivers, current version is 536.23, your version is 528.24.
  2. Make sure you have all the latest updates for Windows (including optional updates). Some optional updates may include a patch for .NET framework which is essential for running Uboat.
  3. Completely delete the UBOAT folder under AppData and validate your game files as instructed above
  4. Make sure all other programs are closed in your Windows task tray. In the past, some applications, especially "ram booster" software has been known to cause issues with Uboat such as Razer Cortex. I don't know why.
  5. Make sure to add Uboat and the Uboat launcher to your list of exceptions for Windows Defender or any third-party AV software that you're running.
  6. Double, triple check that the in-game Steam overlay is disabled. You can find it under Steam settings > In Game > Steam Overlay
I'll be going to bed soon but I hope at least one of those suggestions helps.

The problem is the Unity engine. That is the engine the game is built on. It is well know for stressing and heating hardware. Search online about it. This game prone to freezing and crashing.

You are correct. It is NOT your machine. It is a bad engine. I avoid games with unity if the game is graphics intensive. I know one guy that has two games on unity that has no problems because the graphics requirements are so low.

There is a good reason why this game has been on 'early access' for years now.

Caveat Emptor. Buyer beware.
Welcome back, Mr. Bear. We haven't seen you in a long time. I see you changed your name but you still show up in post history and thanks to this lovely website we can see all of your past aliases from Coffee Time all the way back to when you used to go by "Mr. Bear".
https://steamid.uk/profile/76561198008251615

Litigious1 / Coffee Time / Mr Bear is someone with a bit of a history. He would constantly complain about 'overheating' issues but refused to share an output log or cooperate with others who were attempting to help. The more you tried to help, the more toxic and abrasive he would get.

He's attempted to delete many of his past comments on the forums to try and sweep his past behavior under the rug but you can still find his comments in my post history as quote-replies. Thank goodness for that.

The most we were ever able to get out of him was that he believes anything above 50° C is "cooking" his GPU, he uses Linux and cools his PC with "honeywell" machines, whatever that means.

He's been fairly quiet for the past couple of months but now and then you will sometimes find him jumping into threads like this one where someone is trying to trying to get help for a problem only for him to call the game a scam and encourage the original poster to refund the game as soon as possible.

I'm honestly surprised he hasn't been banned yet for derailing threads when players are actively seeking help for an issue.

Since the last update, I tried all your suggestions, the game sometimes crashes launching it and, when im able to go far far away, it starts charging and then I have a black screen. What can I do? Thanks
