Just bought this game, can't even play it because it crashes in the main menu and on the off chance I actually get into a game it instantly crashes when I click on anything. This game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ embarassing.

I wish I could say this is a widespread issue that everyone is struggling with, but it's not. Could you share an output log so we can try and figure out why you're crashing?

You can find output logs here:

You might have some missing or corrupt game files? Try a file verification.
  1. Go to your Steam library
  2. Right-click on Uboat
  3. Select 'Properties'
  4. Go to 'Local files'
  5. Click on 'Verify integrity of game files'

And make sure your RX 7900 xtx has the latest video drivers

I have done both of these things, my drivers were out of date so thank you for that, I still can't play the game because it crashes instantly upon loading the port. Also I have the exact same Output log.

After verifying your game files, did you attempt to start a brand new game? The old save file might be corrupt.

I held off buying this game for 3+ YEARS even though it is something I think I would love because it is early access, I bought this because of the sale and I truly can't believe I fell for early access ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AGAIN.

Alright, my last idea before I start escalating this problem to someone smarter. But do you have a frame-limiter enabled? If not, you definitely should. Let me pull out my soapbox.

There is no reason for your PC to render more frames than your monitor can actually produce, that's point #1. If you have a 60hz monitor then it would be a good idea to set a frame limiter to 60 fps. I have a 165hz monitor but I set my frame limiter to 90 fps.

The reason I'm suggesting this is on the off-chance that you're playing without a frame-limiter and the game is making your GPU ramp up to 99% usage and causing a driver crash.

You're literally the only person I've seen experiencing crashes when attempting to launch the game in months and the last guy was crashing because he hadn't updated windows or his graphics card drivers since 2018.

There are thousands of other players enjoying the game as we speak without crashing on worse hardware than your PC

I don't know why you're experiencing this problem but I want to help. Try the frame limiter as I suggested and if that doesn't work I'll try to reach out to a staff member of the game.

I set the maximum frame rate in the game to 144, the same as my monitor refresh rate. Why would I need third party software?

I didn't say you need third party software. I don't own an AMD card so I have no idea what your software is like but Nvidia cards come with all sorts of options including a built-in frame limiter.

And alright, I'll try to contact Ruby about this issue.

I would love just once to purchase a game that actually functions, I've been burned so many times by this exact ♥♥♥♥ but I can at least appreciate you trying to help.

Radeon Chill appears to have solved the crashing, Why the in game frame limiter seemingly does not work is beyond me. Why a high frame rate causes the game to panic and crash is also beyond me.

update Radeon Chill solved the problem of immediate crashes, only for me to be greeted with another crash when trying to learn how to submerge the submarine, it happened twice. I maintain my position, this ♥♥♥♥ is embarassing..

HI JohnnyFlaccid,

that sounds not good. Are there crash dumps when the game crashes?
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp\Deep Water Studio\UBOAT\Crashes

If so, can you upload them somewhere?

Cheers Ruby
