I know some mines were placed at depths that only subs would be at and surface ships would go right over.
if you want to be boring, you can always teleport past them xD
I tried travelling surfaced, but I hit one and 3 mates flew out of the conning tower and got a lot of damage. That was not a good idea.
I tried deck awash slowly but I hit a mine again, and as I was low on repair materials, I could not fix everything.
In one occasion I hit a mine but got no damage, and I could continue. On that occasion I could see a small black ball some 60 meter away starboard, so probably they are visible, but I could not see the one I hit. Probably I'll have to be more careful next time I try.
My first try at Scapa with the new Uboat version was a fiasco;
I was hit hard when entering Scapa and only went on to check if I could get out with it. That consumed 22 of the 25 spare parts I took with me. Incredibly I lost no crew and could repair the Uboat, so I told me "lets sink the Royal Oak". I sank the huge ship at Scapa, I needed the 5 torpedoes. Going out I was lucky and could avoid the sharks smelling blood (if you have done the Scapa mission, you know what I'm taking about). Then hit a mine on the south, 5 water leaks :-( Emergency surface, I could repair 3 of the 5 leaks. The pump was doing enough to take the water out with some officers containing the water leakage. I thought I could not reach Willemshaven on that condition and made my way to Bergen. Controlling the whole way from Scapa to Bergen that the boat was not getting flooded. At Bergen the boat got repaired... but I noticed that the mission was not completed :-| I had sank the wrong ship, the Royal Oak is not on the same place as it was on past versions, and sank the wrong ship. All the hardship for nothing.
I think this is the time I have had more fun with Uboat in all the time I have been playing.
I'm asking about the mines, because going out of Scapa through the net is not an option: too many enemy ships to deal with. I tried to use the scope to check if I could see any mine in front of me (yes you can use the scope when you are not so deep in the water to see what is in front of you) but I couldn't see any mines in front of the boat. BOOM was the only signal that a mine had been on my path.
If anyone has a proven strategy to try to go around mines, I would be more than happy to hear about it, unless the strategy is "cross your fingers" :-)
have you already done the aerial reconnaissance so that the minefields are shown on the map? That makes it easier.
In addition, dive and search for the mines ...

Good luck!

Your screenshots were so dark that I had to use Gimp to see the mines :-)
I think I'll have to be more patient next time.
