Any benefits to Kiel over Wilhelmshaven?
Kiel is just further away with a longer route to the patrol areas.

Are there any benefits joining Kiel's flotilla? Like different missions or something?

I second the topic…

Apart from the fact that Wilhelmshaven is ugly in contrast to Kiel, you can enjoy the Kaiser Wilhelm Canal from Kiel. -.-
From Wilhelmshaven you can, depending on the assignment, be faster in deep water and at the operational areas, which is why flotillas have been relocated to France.
Otherwise I can't think of anything.

IMO it's not better than Bergen, but Bergen won't become available initially.

Kiel gives faster access to Arctic area than Wilhelmshaven.

Personally I prefer Wilhelmshaven for Britain and Arctic missions until Bergen is available, or for Atlantic La Rochelle is better.

In a tangential aside, don't waste the reputation point and research time to upgrade to the sub pens at Helgoland.

They are set in at an angle that will defy docking without damage if left to autopilot and it's nothing much to look at.

Did seem to have a slightly better selection of torps on my couple of checkout trips, but aside from that (which may have just been a fluke) it's a waste of a rep point.

I have also come to this conclusion… 👍

Variety of scenery.

Kiel takes a bit longer to get around Skagerrak, so I don’t stay there.

As for Heligoland, it’s primary use as a forward fleet supply base was more or less redundant by the 2nd world war, but it does still serve as a small time saver since it’s closer to your target area and no need to go all the way back to Wilhelmshaven just for a quick ammo restock.

Different strokes, I reckon

Absolutely not. As others have said you have to cross Kattegat and Skagerrak, which take even longer. In the current state of the game there's not much to do in the Baltic. Which means your standard 'hunting grounds' will west from Kiel. So why even start there (unless there was a Kiel canal)
