UBOAT
Difference between U-Boats
Whats the difference between the many U-Boats we can now choose when starting a new game, aside from the decal?

Starting date and upgrades I think
Are there plans to have different types of Uboats? rather than just upgrading the systems but the newer model uboats as well? (i.e more torpedoes tubes, different deck gun arrangements, etc)
The type IX and XXI are planned, but I think they are gonna perfect the VII first
Any idea when they will start rolling out the new sub types then? I like the mechanics of Uboat but I also like the campaign and sub development of SH5 better. It just seems more rewarding rather than just an item upgrade. I think that is my biggest complaint. Uboat has the potential to solidly grab the SH5 diehards over to it (not that I am one) if the campaign and precession system was more rewarding and meaningful. Right now, it just seems cheap and hollow. I understand it is early access but looking at the development roadmap…I haven’t seen a fully developed, in depth campaign or progression system that is both replayable or something you can sink your teeth into without feeling copy/pastish. I think getting a new sub (after so many tons sunk) or affecting the war, etc would make a big impact in those areas.
I very much doubt the new types will be rolled out before release. I don't think it was a reached goal in the kickstarter.

I personally would prefer them to get the game right first as adding a new boat should be much easier to do once the game mechanics are all in place.

Also since it wasn't reached in the kickstarted I hope they make it a PAID DLC, this type of content I would pay for!
Agreed. At the very least a paid DLC for new subs but it puts that much more pressure on the base campaign and progression system to make the game have depth, replayabilty and immersion.
What do you think of the Idea: Training/Tutorial and the first Missions in the Campaign are played with a Type-II Uboat, which is smaller and has less equipment?
Ya. That would be cool. Even if you start off smaller/less capable and move up through the campaign I think that makes things more enjoyable and meaningful.
Only if its not needed to get bigger ships if I don't want to. Then that would be cool, if you can stay with the ship you like best.

Smaller ones would be faster, more maneuverable, submerge and emerge faster, but it has weaker armor, while the bigger ones are slower but more armored and have better guns, more bed for officers, etc
Agreed with Calabresa. I like the idea from SH5 where you CAN get new/bigger subs, better equipment, better guns, etc. I like how they are incorporating the newer/better eqip in Uboat but i would love to see it more fleshed out and a part of a bigger progression map.
There were no bigger submarines in SH5 i think? Or am I wrong?
I would also like to see the supply subs, they don't have to be playable, but adding a mission like a supply mission with a Type XIV Sub would be great.

A playable Type XI would also be great ;-)
In SH5 was 1 sub model but 4 VERY different versions. They were VIIA, VIIB, VIIC and VIIC/41. I guess that was what I meant by different subs. They were such different paying style with each and made major improvements from each (speed, tubes, torp storage, fuel, radar, hydro, engine, reliability, damage model, depth, quietness, dive and surface times, gun placement and types (single flack vs 4 gun flack vs duel 88s), etc etc). Depending on where your patrol was, you didn’t want to be too heavy so maybe you didn’t do a duel 88 (lower weight meant better dive times) but if it was a raider mission than ya, I wanted duel 88s to take out merchants rather than use torps. Those decisions and progressions made mission choice and campaign way more fun for me.
I’m not a developer and really appreciate all the work they have put into UBOAT but adding these elements would make it a really fun game with great replayabilty.
