Scapa flow net
I've been trying to do the Scapa Flow mission and I've done it several times before but today every time I've tried getting over/around the eastern net at night and day all the ships in Scapa Flow get triggered and launch in my direction. Is there anyway to get past the net or is there perhaps a hole the net I've missed.

I've the Intel and I've always tried in most surface mode of the submarine (aka not below water in any way.

I've only done the mission once but I went at night to decks awash and slipped over the southern end of the net, there's a watchtower near the northern end that might spot you I crossed as far south as I could without beaching.

I go on the surface like Prien did

Straight down the middle. At night

Surface just short of the net and floor it , …

I did this mission last night, I did it in winter so I had the maximum hours of darkness. I crossed the net at the bottom part of the east passage at decks awash and crossed no problem. After the mission I tried to cross the net fully surfaced and i got hooked on it. I backed and up and tried again at low speed and crossed ok. Regarding why the ships are triggering is your speed too fast, I crossed at second lowest setting. Also there are gun emplacements on the North shore so perhaps they might be spottting you. Regards

I have done this mission twice, in current and in previous patch. When doing this in previous version of the game, I went above it and back without any problems (although I had many other issues with mission e.g with objective capital ship refusing to sink among other things).

In current version, I got stuck both when going in and when going out with net turning me 90 degrees and had to back up and "force it". I was not spotted somehow. Perhaps the tides that are now implemented in the game makes net ride higher or lower relative to the sea level.

This is probably old, but I thought that I'd give a solution (that I kinda stumbled on by accident). While I was stuck on the net, I tried reversing out of it, what actually happened was I reversed underneath the net. It turns out you can just slide under the net. I hit a depth at around 21-24m. You'll need to micromanage it and be zoomed in. There are two anti-sub nets that I encountered. I just went underneath both, and in broad daylight during the summer.

You'll then need to adjust depth to around 11-14m. It's just below periscope, but deep enough so that you don't get detected, and also so you don't scrape against the sea floor.

As you get closer to the Point of Interest, you'll want to surface to adjust to 7m depth. The Royal Oak will come into view eventually. I also ran into this by accident and learned something new. While you can free view, it's not actually a "god mode". Your periscope is the "true" field of view. Had to save scum because I was going all around the Point of Interest thinking it was bugged. I surfaced and immediately like 20 warships populated on the surface.

I had to send like 5 torpedoes to sink the Royal Oak. To escape, I hit 14m again, micromanaging, and just reversed out. The warships will circle you like sharks, but will not be able to pinpoint you because the noise of their ships drown out yours. I straight up reversed all the way back out lol.

Hope this helps!

Since I haven't seen it mentioned yet, you can skirt around the Scapa netting to the north while staying submerged. Easiest done manually controlled as it's hard to get the AI to plot correctly. Sneak in that way and then sneak out that way after sinking the Royal Oak and all the county class cruisers at anchor.

You can also just dive and slip into the anchorage below the sub net. There's a spot if ~37m depth in the northern half of the net where going under is possible.

Ditto. Done it a bunch of times and this has always been my approach without fail.

I found that spot and still got caught in the net. 100% always getting caught whatever strategy i choose (under, around, surface)

I have done the mission one hour ago (beta, IID sub). I have passed at night surfaced (around 10 knots speed) from the northern part of the eastern net. A red net icon has appeared but with no visible effect so far. No ship has detected me and the royal oak and a carrier were there unprotected. Only a lonely destroyer has come after the royal oak was sunk and later a couple of fast attack boats outside scapa flow.

Man, reading this tale of a master strategist working his boat into a perfect attack position and then cleverly using his enemies' sound against them to escape this makes me feel like Germany's Dumbest U-Boat Captain.

Y'see, what I ended up doing was I just went in at night while surfaced, faced the Royal Oak and the carrier behind it, and saw a DD behind me stopped near the shoreline. So I sent out all five of my fish (one at the DD, two each at the BB and CVL) and got five hits. But none of them actually sank the ships in question, so I had to fire another five after reloading to finish everything off. And then I just rolled flank speed while surfaced and outran the MTB/Corvette launches.

If you set your depth to ~28m near that spot you shouldn't scratch the ground and also have plenty of space between the sub and the net. I've done that mission like over 50 times by now and never hit the net if it wasn't on purpose.

Just cleared the one of them at Scapa Flow in my Type II A. I went decks awash (which you have to do manually in the Type II A - set depth to two or three meters - I used three meters this time). Once engine switched to diesel I went flank speed. It seemed to snag a bit and got turned sideways a bit but went over.

So there's another one? :-( Continuing on...
