Realistic underwater speed
So historically the german type VIIC had a maximum underwater speed of 7 knots. I feel like the max speed of 10 knots which is currently in the game is a little bit overpowered. Is there anyone willing to make a mod which changes the speed to 7 knots or am I the only one who is bothered by this? thanks :)

that's only if you have extra crew assigned to wringing the engine's neck. Take away the extra crew, and you get a max speed of....7 knts.

I'm secretly hoping someone makes a mod so I can skipper a type XXI....17 knts submerged speed, 6 bow tubes, and 23 torpedo capacity. They built 118 of them, but only 2 were ever sent out on patrol and saw no combat. I'd gladly trade a surface speed of 15 knts instead of 18 to get all that.

i want 7,6 knots regardless the extra crew as top speed.
and 17,6 top at surface

Every U-boat had different max speeds, and each of them had different speed limits while surfaced depending on how much fuel and other provisions they were carrying. Their speed also depended on the state of the sea.

But even lightly loaded they couldn't go as fast as in UBOAT. Which is interesting, since this game seems to have an in-depth simulation of buoyancy, drag, and thrust forces. That the boat can do 20/10 knots can not be a coincidence and IMO is a conscious decision that the developers made.

At least the time to travel halfway across the Atlantic on a Mercator projected map will be closer to real with the boat cruising at 14 knots instead of 10.

Dont keep it a secret, everyone wants it
would be nice to have a few boat types to unlock...

Really, beyond the type IX and type XXI, there werent any other 'combat' uboats. They've already said they want to add the type XXI to the game, so Id expect we'd see a type IX as well.

You could also supercharge both diesel and e-engines for short periods, which increased their respective speeds. With no option to supercharge, I feel it's fair to have an option for increased speeds if so desired.
The downside of not assigning crew to the engines is that it increases fuel/energy consumption. For long travels it's mandatory to conserve every ounce of fuel, so of course players will have the max number assigned to engines and engineers. Which really takes the option away.

There will be a mod for that 100% if it remains like this in the game. Not sure when, though. Maybe after full release

Are there any news about the developers addressing this issue?

It's not an issue, and was answered in the 1st response to the thread. It is the result of added crew to the Engineering Officer. To change that, would be to change the fundamental element of the game. That being...Crew Management and Utilization.

Well, I disagree. It makes a difference if 7 (Point six!) knots Are distributed over 5 or 3 speed settings. It also matters regarding the energy consumption, which is lesser than a telegraph on full speed.

So having at least an option to play with historical speeds would be nice.

Then GO those speeds yourself, and stop trying to get Devs to blanket it over everyone, I NEVER go over 3 Knots submerged unless I am dodging DC's, you can literally PICK the speed you want, why does anyone else have to live with your demands.

It isn't and never has been an Issue, it is "Already possible", "you" are the one going Fast, not us, ring up 6 or 7 on the Surface, and 3 Submerged, we all get what we want.

Your Suggestion is Pointless and Redundant, you can Already do exactly what you are Describing, it amazes me you do not get it.

The maximum I've ever clocked in underwater is 9 kn. This is within the capabilities of the later U-boat e-engines. The earlier models were slower, and this is correctly depicted in the game. Which e-engine upgrade are you using?

The different max speeds where around +-0.5kt, not 7-10/17-20kt top speed.
Also the use of provision and torpedos did not affect the surface speed of the u-boat and even the fuel only when a pair of reserve fuel ballast bunkers were complete empty. For every kg of used provision, they took 1 liter water more in the regulation tanks.
So except the fuel, an u-boat weights the same, no matter if its the first day of patrol or the 30s day of patrol
