Cook not required?
I kept galley without cook crew or officer just to see what happens. In short nothing.

I did 5 day test run without cook. Results:
Food consumtion rate unchanged.
No discipline debuff.
Possitive discipline buff from varied dishes applied.
Galley auto refills when it runs out.
Crew go to eat from pot.

Ghost galley from now on. Unless something else pops up.

I think this is the only advantage that a cook provides.

oh.

Well, I think having a qualified Chef in the galley should decrease the rate of food comsumption and give a morale buff, since Chefs know how to use less ingredisnets and get a better tasty food product.

Haveing no one at the galley should have major nagative buffs and higher waste of food.

I agree, the galley being unmanned should have more of a drawback. Like reduced discipline from not getting proper meals as crew help themselves to the food. Perhaps also a higher rate of food usage too.

It is still applied. No cook needed. Officer just makes it better.

Well I believe at the moment cooking doesn't seem any better than playing cards, the +7 is the same but it increases the food consumption rate.

Varied dishes provide +4,+8,+12 depending on variation of food and does not change based on officer cook.

Officer cook provides a further buff of +7. If I understand correctly this does not change food consumption rate, just gives a +7 extra discipline separate from the varied dishes buff.

I *think* cooking drains stamina slower than playing cards. (Though IRL it should be the opposite lol)

Always kind of stupid having an officer who would cook. Like it just wouldn't happen.

It's more about having an authentic experience with a cook standing there.

Eh, well I can't speak for WWII German Uboat officers, but at least on the submarine I served on, we did have an officer who liked to get in the galley on Saturday nights and help make pizza for the crew. And one of our XOs would get in there and cook once in a while.

The trick is, you can have an active cook and 2 active card players, which will net you a +21 discipline per minute without the leadership skills.

If you ever find yourself in a situation where you NEED that +21... get your boat back to port and go on a freaking vacation!

Yeah I'd say it simulates that some officers might just be cool dudes who like cooking.
