Aircraft Carriers

Does anyone know where/when aircrafts carriers spawn, I havent been able to find them besides in the tutorial

They are in convoys, the label shown on the map is "Very Large Group" 16 to 37 vessels.

Be aware if you are spotted (most of the vessels in that convoy can sound the alarm)

Carriers may suddenly leave the scene at speeds up to 48km / hr.
making it extremely hard to sink it, basically impossible.

1 torpedo may not be enough to cripple the carrier unless you're a very lucky shot.
Launch 4 torpedos instead.

The carrier can shoot with very powerful guns if you're too close,
may also send out multiple aircrafts towards your location.

Watch out for destroyers too, they have long range radar and they are even faster.

Most obvious location : the route on the western approaches between the USA and England

the first one that i've encountered was in March 1941,
however, the carrier in this game is an illustrious class carrier also named "illustrious"
which was first commissioned in May 1940

There's another illustrious class carrier named "Indomitable"
which was first commissioned in October 1941. ( i don't know if this one is in the game )

edit:

the Formidable in late November 1940
and the Victorious in late May 1941

Most likely you can find carriers in the Mediterranean too, some important battles took place there.

September 17, 1939

HMS Courageous was sunk by U-29 off the coast of Ireland. She like several other carriers were assigned to hunter-killer operations in the Western Approaches. Three days earlier U-39 made an unsuccessful attempt to sink the HMS Ark Royal. These events prompted the Royal Navy to withdraw carriers from ASW duty. The Courageous-class carriers don't seem to be modeled in the game but to give you an idea of early war carrier presence.

In large convoy. I fund (and sunk) one in the sector BE. Mission: 2250 Km in sector BE. you must fire all torpedoes

I ended up finding the carrier escort - Ark Royal just recently - probably 3 fish centre mass should do it, I used 4 to be safe - they put up 4 or 5 birds if you don't sink it first go

Found one in Leith harbour in autumn ´42. Had only 3 corvettes protecting it, all sunk quickly. :)

If you use cheats to teleport to the us coast you can find HMS Illustrious in one of the ports. I assume it picks up convoy escort at some point in time to come back to Europe.
