Crew keeps dissapearing after inspecting ships

So I've had it twice now that my crew did not return from inspecting a freighter after telling them to come back. I found threads from over a year ago that report similar issues. How common is this? I might just stop inspecting ships entirely, since having to reload constantly is a pain.

• Are you running any mods? (I am required to ask this, you have no idea how many people post bug threads without first checking their mods)
  
  
• Are you remembering to stop your boat before boarding the other ship? If you do not cut your engines before boarding a neutral ship for inspection, your u-boat will just keep sailing off into the distance while the merchant ship comes to a complete stop. This causes issues with your crew being able to get back to the ship.

I have had this issue before the last patch and still experience it. No workaround, other than remembering to quicksave(f8) before every inspection. I do notice that the game warns you that the whole crew could be lost, but without a prompt, it's frustrating not knowing if the crew is dead from my actions, if I need to wait longer, or if it's a bug.

Boarding a damaged ship runs the risk of your crew getting lost if it sinks.

Boarding a ship without remembering to stop your own boat will cause your crew to get lost as your u-boat continues to sail out of range while the merchant is stopped. Always remember to stop your u-boat before boarding for an inspection.

Also before you leave the area, remember to go to the map screen, look at the avatars at the bottom right of the screen, above the men that left there is a helmet symbol, click it, that will teleport you to the men on the ship - select the appropriate dialogue responce - e.g. to return to the ship captains chambers, then from there is another menu option to return to the Uboat
