periscope up and down

Why the hell does the Captain put the periscope up at periscope depth without any order to do so. This gives away my position and I just dont want my captain to raise the periscope every time I come to periscope depth. Is there any way you can stop people from using the periscopes?

Two ways, one is to make sure no crew has periscope selected in the task menu. The other is to have your captain (or other leader) man the periscope, then select "hide periscope" on the top left menu. That way even if it's manned, it's kept below the surface until ordered otherwise.

This video will help you find the button that El Rushbo is referring to. Otherwise you can just remove the periscope task from your officer or sailor's list of duties on the "task" page of your crew management.
