Identify Neutral ships
This has been messing with me for some time now.
I detect a ship sailing alone, I approach submerged as the ship icon on the UI was red(usually stands for enemy) checked as it was sailing under the Swiss flag and had no weapons mounted so I surfaced but then the ship´s alarm starts even watching all those mixed signals I got closer and even stopped about 20 meters away from it trying to interact with the ship so I could board and all that stuff but the option was never available since the ship was ringging the alarm and zig-zagging. The signals were all there so in my mind I had no doubt and DGed the ship to the bottom.
But at the end of the patrol...

I´ve noticed at the end, yes it was a US ship under the Swiss fake flag but still both Switzerland and US ships should not behave like any other enemy ship sounding the alarm and zig-zagging wich did not gave me the opportunity to board them and showing as a red icon at the map or when we lock it.
Sure the punishment for sinking neutral ships is not that bad but still I would like to at least have a chance to have/gather some informationabout a ship actually being neutral instead of getting all the clues aiming guns at them like I had this and many other times.

Oil in its cargo holds... A tanker. Currently cannot be boarded.

Likely was flying a false flag on its way out to the UK and kept flying it after on its way home. I would expect it would have been a crude oil tanker as the UK needed all the fuel it could get at this time.

The purpose of boarding another ship is to see if they're carrying contraband to the United Kingdom or her allies that could aid in the war effort against Germany. Petroleum is most definitely on the list of contraband that could aid the war effort.

Ergo, any tanker headed to the UK is a valid target by default.

Also, neutral ships do not run or call for help. If you approach a neutral vessel and they raise the alarm, start to zig-zag or send out an SOS message? Then you just found a smuggler who couldn't keep his composure.

They always talk about the germans doing war crimes breaking the rules during during WW2.

But wasn't flying a ship under a false neutral flag not a war crime or something?
Did the Allies not got punished for it after WW2. Oke the allies were ''the good guys'' but that doesn't change the fact that they also broke the rules.

Nobody had the right to fly a false neutral flag.

If you read some of the really in depth uboat books, the captains go out of their way to try to do the right thing.

But both sides take advantage of the others honour, some skippers still did the right thing (to their detriment)

What's missing in this game is the ability to radio ships to abandon so you can torpedo them without loss of life. Sometimes they might agree, sometimes they might agree then open fire etc

If you are interrested in stuff like this, read stuff about the Lusitania in WWI for example.
The brits never shyed away from putting civilians in line, smuggeling or misdeclaring cargo.

I had a swiss neutral cargo vessel shooting the crap out of me the other day. Well, that happend.
