If you can manage to get over that, then you'll have a good time.
Also I wouldn't recommend diving balls-deep into mods just yet or you risk becoming yet another casualty we see on these forums all too often.
"I found a bug! How could the devs let this happen?!"
"Are you playing with mods?"
"Why do you ask?"
I would highly recommend putting 20-40 hours into Uboat without using any mods just yet so you can get a feel for the game and what it's like completely vanilla, first.
After that, go nuts! Just please remember that if you do encounter any problems or bugs, the very first thing you should investigate is your mod list just in case the problem is mod-related and not game-related.

Here is my personal collection of what I consider must-have mods for Uboat. None of the mods in this collection require you to start a new game. You should be able to enable any of the mods in this collection on an existing save.

And this is a collection of mods for those that enjoy hardcore realism but again, I strongly advise against using mods, especially these mods until you have your sea legs in Uboat. Please. I beg you.

And finally, I recommend all users who play with mods to join the Uboat Discord server so you can easily talk to other community members and even the mod authors themselves directly, should you encounter any problems.
You can find the Uboat Discord server here, right in your game launcher.

And one can't mention it too often, that this game needs attention and some concentration to unfold is full beauty :) im from SH3/SH4 and can recommend Uboat, even in the EA state
Your game comes recommended by a very competent programmer friend of mine. So, I'm glad to get started. Thanks.
Cool bud, I have much enjoyment on SH4 even with the mini mods like jazz radio stations, little immersive stuff like that.
Oh, nice. Is he in C#? We could use some talented coders for modding :D
