Neutral Shipping
Is there really any reason to stop small neutral shipping transport groups (a couple neutral ships, no escorts) in the very early going? I have never actually proven even one of them is carrying war supplies and the only thing that seems to happen is they radio out my position when the encounter is over.

I think early in the game .. I am playing UBE, so currently September 1939 .. that I am only going to try to interdict on British ships or British escorted ships this early.

Thoughts?

I remember that prize law authorized you to directly sink anyone who report your location towards british .
back to gameplay , in vanilla game only allied ship which flies a false flag will send SSS massage .

Many "neutral" ships claim to be headed to Vigo when really headed to Liverpool, order them evacuated and sunk. Any ship carrying supplies to British ports, order them evacuated and sunk. You don't need to "prove" it in game it so long as you the player can see through the lie. The game just checks to make sure you followed "procedure".

Of all the "neutrals" I've sunk I've only ever officially proven one lying.

If they radio your position then they're not neutral and are fair game.

If you have a navigator on board you can use his navigation skill to call BS on their claimed destination. But it's not strictly necessary. If they're obviously heading toward Britain, (e.g. you intercept them while they are going Northeast in the Celtic Sea) just sink them. Ships headed toward a blockaded port are a fair prize regardless of their country of origin.

I think OP's point is more directed towards the P21 patch and at the fact that there in fact should be frequent Shipping Groups and Convoys which only contain Freighters/Tankers/non military vessels .

I can attest to this fact, Many of the 400 Convoy codes (10,000+ Convoys) often had no escort. The presence of an escort was more so a factor of convoy route and time period.

This is especially true in 1939/1940 when even around britian when the British Royal Navy had not fully committed to providing escort to convoy groups to merchant shipping.

I mean.. It is only a game. I have a save. If they demote me, I'll just do it over differently :)

But early on, it is hard to find evidence and I am trying to find out how this new mechanic is working.

I mean in real life if a neutral ship attempted to radio your position you could then sink it.

As others have shared in their replies to your question: Follow orders. Sink all ships that are not allied ships. This includes sinking neutral ships.

Historically in the real life war these actions the Germans did sinking neutral ships, not just war ships, is what really ticked other countries off and made other countries that were mainly neutral throughout WWII dispatch their forces as escorts and they did recon missions in target or their home territory areas because the Kriegsmarine was attacking and sinking pretty much anything that wasn't theirs or their allies.

One of the reasons they took neutral ships is because opposing countries were using neutral-labelled ships or disguising their ships as neutral to transport troops and supplies.

If they're red or gray on the map sink them if you can intercept them.

If you get the right ship carrying valuables you'll get some good cash out of it. I think 50 gold bars, or jewels, will get you 25,000. I've gotten two ships like that. I'm in early 1942, and already got almost 700,000 cash. I started in 41 vanilla.
