Dive Planes, electric or manual?

When holding the TAB key it's possible to switch the Dive Planes between Manual and Electric. What difference does this make? I know electric uses battery power, but why wouldn't I just leave it on manual then?

manual makes no noise but u need crewmember i guess

iirc, manual is less exact and thats important when youre at periscope depth while electric is noisy - I prefer manual and an officer at that station

electric is good for hydro checks or diving quickly to get away from aircraft, times when you don't mind making a bit of noise withe the electric motors, when ever you are underwater to not be seen or heard you should shut down the gyrocompass and the electric dive planes and switch to manual, you can sneak through just about anything like that

Electric is noisy

Manual with an officer on depth steering makes no noise


But both are the same result? Or is Electric PLUS an officer give a better result?

Electric plus officer is more accurate still. But also noisy.

Electric steering add 85dB to noise for enemy hydrophone detection of uboat, however electric steering is more precise than manual, resulting in better depth maintaining and faster dive rates.

I basically switch my diveplanes to manual when I am allready submerged and is entering a convoy to attack to reduce my noice. But I keep them electric when on surface so I can dive quick if a plane comes around.
