Just in case you weren't aware, the G7e T5 is an acoustic-homing torpedo and will home in on the loudest noise it detects. It's important to immediately cut your engines so that the torpedo doesn't accidentally detect you as the loudest available target.
That being said though, the Realistic T5 Torpedoes mod by Salamander makes them behave a lot more like their real-life counterparts.
The 'homing' system inside the T5 was actually quite simplistic in design, consisting of just two hydrophones mounted inside the nosecone in a 'V' configuration pointed out at a 45° angle in each direction.
After reaching it's arming distance the torpedo's system would remain inert until it detect a noise that was loud enough to trip the relay. Once triggered, the hydrophone would begin to wiggle towards it's target.
One hydrophone would pick up a noise. This tripped the relay that told the rudder to steer in that direction, hard left or hard right. As the torpedo steered towards the noise, the first hydrophone lost contact until the second hydrophone picked up the noise and would trip the relay to begin steering in the other direction creating that signature 'wiggle'.
