Blue light in Uboats
I just watched das Boot and noticed the blue lights they sometimes switched on. I also noticed this game has the option to enable blue light. However I was not able to find any information about the purpose of blue light. Noone does even seem to know if this is historically accurate or just for some dramatic lighting?

Does anyone know more about this topic? It really interests me..

It’s the silent running light. I dint know If when you use it , it slow automaticly the sub, but I know it affect the moral of the crew

Thanks, do you have any source where I can read about it? Why did they use blue light in some parts of the boat and red light in others?

think red light was for nightime surfaced activity.?

seemed to me in das boot they used the blue light when they were stalking convoys at night.

theyd turn off lights when submerged for long periods to conserve battery power.

Blue light gets switched on manually on the sub - it gives bonuses when the sub is in silent running like reduced oxygen intake from your crew etc.
I have not seen what bonuses red light does yet in game but i guess i will find out in 2-3 weeks.
Timestamp is not working so go to 1:03:36 in video below.

Blue is Silent Running -15% Oxygen Consumption
Red is either Battle Stations or Nighttime running. So the eyesight isnt lost completley
White is general running

Thanks for all the info. I still wonder why there doesn't seem to be any "official" or "secured" information source about this topic.

What do you mean by "-15% oxygen consumption"?
Klausberger Apr 14, 2019 @ 9:20pm
That means, because of less hard work and more sleeping crew that has no actual work, you gonna save 15% Oxygen.

i cant find any credible source of "blue Lights" neither, looks more like its a Film-Makers Accessory for more dramatically scenes in "Das Boot".

Yeah, some people say it's a movie thing and others say it's an actual thing but seems there is no reliable information about it ...

Red lights increase the sight range of your crew during night time and also makes your own screen brighter to make it easier to see at night.
This is taken off the hint tips from the game.

Yes, it's one of our tributes to Das Boot. Blue lighting was used only in the bow torpedo room in real life.

Oh thanks for that answer! May I ask why that was the case?

And maybe a site/book where I can read about it?
