Stadimeter is not accurate
I've noticed stadimeter is not accurately measuring distances correctly. It gives distances of 3 km when a target is 2 km. I've been getting distances manually for the last 4 days. Right now its not reliable at all.

I not sure if that was ever corrected, meaning that from ( 1 - 1.9 ) miles shows 1 mile, and so on.

It is probably best to draw a circle on the map, and plot it by hand.

HI,

The displayed values are rounded up. However, the calculations for the torpedo shot are correct.

however @Ruby with TDC mod it is not rounding it and i have also noticed it. Its only for some ships it can be off by like 500 meters. Seems to be using wrong mast heights.

The OL class tanker in example if i remember stadimeter delivers wrong range.

My experience suggests that the stadimeter has trouble with all the Empires in B128 (as of P16 at least), sometimes off by 33-50% (5 cables away on map but 1nm by stadimeter). I've had much better success with larger ships (C3, Liberty and the like) where I've seen the rounding effect and it hasn't affected the targeting solution much. Anecdotal, of course.

Hi Rudy, the further away from a target traveling at a very specific speed leaves a huge room for error. It appears to be rounding up to the nearest 1.0 km and not even rounding to the nearest 0.5 km which would be a bit more accurate. The stadimeter isn't even correct with targets at 1.0 km.... I'm seeing it provide range values of 3.0 km. They are actually 1.0 km when measured on the map. I'd recommend that everyone perform manual calculations and disregard using this tool altogether.

At this point, I'm taking a break from this game and will wait until its finished. It's becoming more of a sour experience with things not working properly because they have no real use to me in the game when they don't work.

Hi, Logan,

on a sub the distances were mostly estimated.
Here a video that shows that distance is not the problem. Distance is not a primary parameter to hit the target.
It's in German but you will see that a ship with a distance of 1200m is also hit with a setting of 6km. Probably the torpedo will hit even if I set 10 km. The reason, the deviation of the Torpedo gyro angle is only 1°.

If we're being completely honest, the Germans did not have a stadimeter. They tried it out in the early war but later removed them in favor of using 000° gyro launches as Ruby pointed out, or they used the centiradians on the periscope for measuring range.

I'd love to use the centiradians on the periscope in-game but it's not using a measurement that I'm familiar with from Wolfpack.

Hi Ruby, Thanks for that information, it helps explain the game mechanic.

Just an FYI but you also need to identify the vessel first before you measure it's distance or speed. Since the game uses the information from the identification book to measure distance by using the height of the masts (from the book) and measures speed by using the length of the vessel (from the book).

Measuring distance or speed before a vessel is identified will give erroneous values.

Also the listed height includes flagpole and flag, which are hard to see at times. So if you take mast height youll end up measureing it as to far away, need to align with flagpole tip.
