UBOAT

U-Boat or Submarine?
The game is called UBOAT, but it says it's a simulation of a submarine. So which is it? U-Boat or submarine?

Unsurprisingly, it's a u-boat.

So why does the game description say the game simulates a submarine?

Because a u-boat is a submarine.

No it's not. They're two different things. I can see the confusion, but a U-Boat is NOT a submarine and a submarine is NOT a U-Boat.

We can argue semantics all day. Yes, technically speaking, a u-boat is not a submarine because it cannot remain submerged for long durations. But disregarding technicalities, the words uboat and submarine are interchangeable. In English, at least, the word uboat refers to a German submarine.

So I see your point, but I don't understand why you created this thread. Was it to just show off that somehow you knew more than the developers? Or perhaps you just didn't understand that uboats can also be called submarines?

I created this thread because I want to know whether or not this game simulates a U-Boat, as implied by the title, or simulates a submarine, as implied by the description.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

From the sound of it he doesn't want to know anything as it is rather simple to find the answer. This is just an attempt to argue semantics and show off that detail he knows. Unless you are blind then you could figure this out by looking at the pictures.

Is the Gato class called a submarine? Yes it is
Is the X-class called midget submarine? Yes it is
Is the Typ VII called a U-Boot? Yes it is
What is the german word for submarine? U-Boot
So yes, a U-boat IS a (german military) submarine.

a U-boat is a specific type of submarine. Think about it... who would call a Typhoon-class submarine a U-boat?

Dictionary
U-boat
/ˈyo͞o ˌbōt/
noun
a German submarine used in World War I or World War II.
Wikipedia
U-boat is an anglicised version of the German word U-Boot a shortening of Unterseeboot, literally "underseaboat". While the German term refers to any submarine, the English one (in common with several other languages) refers specifically to military submarines operated by Germany, particularly in the First & Second World Wars. Although at times they were efficient fleet weapons against enemy naval warships, they were most effectively used in an economic warfare role (commerce raiding) & enforcing a naval blockade against enemy shipping. The primary targets of the U-boat campaigns in both wars were the merchant convoys bringing supplies from Canada & other parts of the British Empire, & from the United States to the United Kingdom & (during the Second World War) to the Soviet Union & the Allied territories in the Mediterranean. German submarines also destroyed Brazilian merchant ships during World War II, causing Brazil to declare war on both Germany & Italy on August 22, 1942.
Austro-Hungarian Navy submarines were also known as U-boats.:lunar2019deadpanpig:
As to what's in the game... play it & find out.

Yo! You all wrong. The correct terminology for a 'submarine' or 'U-boat' as such is a 'SUBMERSIBLE". A 'submarIne' is more likely a MARINE whom is stationed on a "SUBMERSIBLE".
