UBOAT
Are the devs working on the deck gun?
It's been months since I played this game and I'm thrilled that they addressed the time-compression issue, but I'm sad to see that the deck gun still hasn't gotten any love.

It's horrendously inaccurate in the hands of your crew, and I'd like to see options like SH4 had where you can tell them to aim at the bridge, deck, waterline, etc and have them hit with reasonable accuracy. As far as I can tell there's no timer on the star shells so they never explode over the target like they're supposed to, making them useless for illuminating. Ammo count is way too low, and my main storage still has to compete for space between extra ammo and food stocks, but that is a rather minor complaint. A simple fix for that would be increased stack count for food/ammo because there's still no way to use all the 6,000kg of storage due to stack limits.

Getting the hang of scheduling and tasks for crew management, I did find an issue where having two people try to resupply the deck gun at the same time causes them to just walk back and forth to the storage and resetting the task. Not a huge deal, I just set the priority to 0 so no one is allowed to restock deck gun now unless I tell them manually.

You can solve this by increasing the storage area by [ Editing ] the [ xlsx ] files.

You can also increase the amount of food and ammo by editing the [ xlsx ] files.

The best way of hitting anything is to switch to manual shooting and to do it yourself.

You can increase the experience but, I'm not too sure that if helps, they still miss a lot of the times. I will add that they seem to do better shooting down the planes.

Thanks for the reply. I might look into changing the game files if it isn't too hard. I was wrong on the storage space, it holds 8,000kg not 6,000 but yeah, small oversight on the devs part since you can't actually fill it up all the way due to the "stacks" and only having 10 slots. Gotta keep that canned fish separate from the HE rounds I guess.

It would be nice to be able to put more stuff in the captain's storage. Seems like an artificial limitation that you can store coffee in there but not a bag of potatoes. Uboat crews had to make use of every empty space they could find.

Hopefully the devs will keep working on it.

You can store 160 shells in the deck gun storage (wich is way to much, the real Typ VII could only store 28 ready to use shells at the gun) another stack of 40 shells in the main storage and you have nearly the same amount of shells a real Typ VII had (205)

I've got 80 shells in the deck gun storage and I'm using 720/750 kg. I don't see how you could get 160 shells in the deck gun ammo storage unless you found a glitch to exceed the weight limit. As you say it's too much, anyway, but putting it in the storage with food is an issue for space as well.

If they could simply get rid of artificial limitations like not being able to put medkits or spare parts in the captain's cabinet then it might free up some space in the main storage, but honestly they just need more than 10 'slots' in the main storage. And some things just don't make sense. For example the max limit on coffee stack is a whopping 4 coffee. I have 6 units of coffee in the cabinet and yet it's taking up 2/8 of my 'slots'. Must be some huge cups of coffee, lol. Meanwhile I can fit 100 potatoes in a sack. I doubt anyone has ever used more than 25% of the 200kg weight limit for the captain's cabinet because of such limitations..

I really want, no, need the scope view like you have in silent hunter. Because aiming it with the current system is completely pointless beyond 500 meters.

I'd like to see more slots so that you can carry limited to volume rather than stack limitations. And also the same with the forward storage. Make the most out of that as well.

I recently made a mod to adjust slot counts ( https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2148395762 ) , but so far I only increased them for main storage and the kitchen. How many slots would you guys consider appropriate for the forward item storage?

I am still waiting for real iron sights for the deck gun with the ability to set the range. There is actually a binocular looking piece on the deck gun model which is where the actual sights/scope is supposed to be. Instead we got this pathetic circle on the top of it. Like wtf is that going to do.

What concerns me a lot more than this:
1. Deck gun needs a serious nerf. While yes it's inaccurate in the hands of crew but on the other hand it's way too precise when player controls it. Spread is literally nonexistant and should be increased dramatically. Also, damage is too high. This is not the same 8.8cm found on i.e. pz.kpfw VI, it's obsolet pre-war junk. Really.
2. Reload is too fast.
3. External armament use should be restricted in rough seas. While this is not as crucial for AA but 8.8 should only be allowed to be used in calm sea.
4. Missing timers on AA shells and flares.
5. There should really be an option to ditch 8.8cm for exchange of extra 1-2 kts speed,
I would personally do so without hesitation.

on of my mods has seemed to correct this - I can only store 384kg worth (28 shells AP) and only 96kg AA (300rds)

I concur with DaVinci, manual shooting is more accurate but it still takes 10-15 shells to sink an undamaged freighter. I had to shoot 6-7 shells to just a bow sticking out of the water, it should have taken 1-2.

i think there is a misconception of being able to make the boat "lighter" in exchange for more speed. the boat had to have the same weight at all times because of the balanced floatability, or better said, the possibility to dive level. if you'd lose a ton of weight by dismantling the deck gun you would need to add a ton of ballast or else it could not go underwater as intended.
but removing it could make it a bit more slick while diving so it could be a tiny little bit faster when below sea level

Type VIIC boats carried 220 rounds for the deck gun, unless Uboat.net has been lying to me.

I'm disappointed to see the optical sights are still omitted. Either a weird 3rd person reticle or a pointless ring aperture.
