Report a translation problem
I believe the order in the txt file is also the load order, so if you get the mods working and something doesn't work, try changing it there.
I don't use Ubuntu, so handle all info with caution, it might be different, but should give you a general idea..
1. Subscribe to the mod in the steam workshop to download it.
2. Create the file "~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/494840/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/Deep Water Studio/UBOAT/modlist.txt"
3. For each mod, put "steam:<mod number>". So, for instance, for the diesel smoke mod I have "steam:2070639610" (without the quotes!).

This helped me as well. It would have been nice though, if you would have mentioned where to get the steam mod numbers from... :P
