Can't get crew generated targeting solution
Can someone detail the steps to get the crew to generate a targeting solution?

In combat I can see a list of enemy vessels top left, with 0% targeting solution. I can click to select a target to attack, still 0% solution. The target info box appears bottom left. I can't get the crew to fill in any of the information, and 2 of the 4 buttons are greyed out.

I can select:
Plot an intercept course to the vessel
Centre camera on vessel

Greyed out:
Open targeting stations list
Launch torpedoes at this target

I've tried clicking on my guys to try and get them to work on a solution. Nothing. I've got the captain on the scope and men assisting.

I'm getting fairly proficient at getting manual solutions and entering the data myself, but that starts to get a little unmanageable with multiple targets.

Where am I going wrong?

Thanks in advance.

In order for a firing solution to be generated they must first collect all the information that shows on bottom left, i.e. target speed, range, and AOB. That could take a little while. Once all the info is in the display changes and they are now able to identify the ship's name, type, and tonnage. At that point (around 30-40%) the torpedo button will become active and you will be able to select your tubes. My guess is that they need more time to gather all info before firing solution is active. That usually happens at 30-50% depends on the officer. I hope this helps.

Thanks athenian, that's given me a better idea of what to look for.

I've never had the solution get above 0%. Having looked at some YouTube videos, I seem to be missing the characters that appear on the left hand side, where you assign them to work on the solution. Wondering if my copy is bugged or something?

Bonjour à tous,

Autre solution automatique:

It doesn't work. I'm sure this is a bug, I just don't know why it's happening for me.

Sounds like something is off. Have you tried to verify the game files on Steam?

Are the ships still "Unknown" to you? Until you can more positively identify them and gain some info, you cannot perform the firing solution commands. To gain that information, make sure you are either at periscope depth or below and using a hydrophone/attack periscope or surfaced and using one of the 3 spotting mechanisms (targeting sight, attack periscope or observation periscope).

I haven't experimented too much with depth, but perhaps you are too deep for the periscope to work and need a man on the hydrophone instead?

On the map, you'll need your enemies to be within the green/blue circles for sight/hydro in order to begin collecting the necessary data to move towards unlocking the firing solution commands. Also, the only crew that can perform the firing solutions are those actively manning the hydrophone and periscopes. If they're asleep or working another station, they will not be available on the left side where you assign them.

It seems like once I get the ships name/type, the firing solution options become available for all my crew that are manning an appropriate station. Hope something in here helps.

HI,

No. It just means the name of the ship could be read on the bow. The ship doesn't have to be identified yet, and it doesn't have to have a target solution.

Cheers Ruby

...

'Hardcore aiming mode' was enabled. There you have it. Thanks guys.

The fact that this took several people some thinking about makes me feel less of an idiot.

Sometimes it's the simple things that get overlooked because of assuming a bug or other error... you know the saying about not seeing the woods for the trees?

Hi. I know about the hardcore aiming. But can this happen in a training mission where im specifically tasked to let the smuck target??? It worked once but than i reloaded and this ability is gone...

Men, i just wanna say THANKS to you. My god, how can we code a tuto with learning auto target and don't say in the first mission : in fact this tuto is total useless, ♥♥♥♥ you.

Anyway thanks a lot, i could have been searching for hours whats going on

Hi Liam,

that's not quite right. In the tutorial, the officers create a firing solution, no matter what setting you have set.

Unfortunately, there is a small bug. When you load a savegame, it loads the setting you have set, regardless of whether it is a tutorial or not. This will surely be fixed in the next patch.

Cheers Ruby
