CPU overheating
Hi,

yesturday I made the experience, that my system just shut down due to overheating while I played the game.
I was ingame for about 60 mins. During this time the CPU cooler was increasing and increasing its RPM. After 60 mins the system went of without zero warning (COP). 10 min later I was able to restart the PC again.
I think this is not an performance issue but an very critical technical safety problem! It could even cause irreparable damage to the hardware.

PLEASE CHECK THAT!

Thanks.

maybe its time to clean the cooler?

Thermal issues are your problem, not this games developers.

I have read several Unity engine posts that cause significant stress to components. My Summer Car was one of them.

Cleaning should be a 6 month task, if you have a games machine. Especially CPU and GPU Heat Sink & fan. use small soft brush and compressed air -holding the fan so as not to over stress the bearings. I either of them are old -like past 5 years, there's no harm in redoing the thermal paste as it begins to harden and dry

The case, the cooler and the fans are roundabout 2 weeks old, so I guess this is no point of discussion. But thanks anyway.

I have the same problem, and only with this game. But yeah, this is probably my fault too -_-

Some software may need crunch a lot of numbers generating a lot of heat. A stock cooler in almost all cases are enought. Doble check if your cooler is well placed, check temperatures and process with cpuid HW monitor and Process Explorer.

If have a intel, the cooler's plastic clips can fail (broken or loose) unless you have some screws.

And yes, bad optimization is bad.

theoretically there could be certain hardware combinations that run hot due to some bug which happens only with that setup. It could also be a bug in hardware driver.

For me i didn't notice anything like that. Actually my cooler even goes at lowest speed when im playing uboat, although my hardware is not new and not very powerfull. Its about avarage.

Underlying Hardware fault, I suggest you test your system in prime95 high stress tests for stability, monitor you Cpu/Vrm temps. Running a game without v-sync can increase temps considerably also which will expose weak cooling systems.

I'd wager you have cooling problems, badly seated cooler is likely.

if you Cant run prime95 for an hour below 80c your system is unstable.

It certainly not normal that cpu overheats at all. Even at full load on cpu cooler should be able to manage the heat. When its overheating at full load it means you have a thermal issue in your setup. In most cases its just dirt or the cooler is not sitting well or thermal paste dryed out.

The op is not wrong... unity can be very stressful for gpu or sometimes cpu. My card (R9 480x) was burned by the game... no joke. I forgot to decrease the output of the card manually, which was the only way to play the game without crashes and it ran at 100° for about half an hour. After that it had failures, so it was broken. Had this overheating also with other unity games.

I don't know how old the system of the op is, but on newer systems this problem seems to be not that common.

Once again: The system is totally new. 3 weeks now. Other games don't show this problem. Even with benchmarks I have no increased heat load. It is ONLY in this game. The cooler is totally oversized for this CPU. This can not be the problem!
Check the TDP rating of your CPU then check the TDP rating of your cooler and make sure the cooler is rated at least as high, if not a bit higher than your CPU. If it isn't, buy a new cooler that is.

I have an AMD RGB CPU cooler fan, man you should hear it, when playing Uboat. It goes to full RPM. Additional 3 fans go full RPM. It's a HOT game to run because of UNITY and the ammount of processing. Change your CPU cooler to an AMD RGB one, it can handle it

Two options:

1: Use in game report tool with enough heat and time to send it. Then wait for a patch.

2: Check you cooler again.

Extra: Upgrade or downgrade MoBo and GPU drivers

No game can overheat a CPU or GPU they designed to max out and stay there for days if they are overheating they will re boot your computer or shut it down and that is due to inadequate cooling, case too close to wall or desk or badly placed thermal paste or they are over volted.

First thing to look at is are the case fans creating positive pressure in the case and forcing the air out, no good if the hot air is just swirling about. Then check if your computer is overclocked. If all is good then check the thermal paste one pea size in the middle of the cooler is enough let it squish it this stops air pockets. Some games will tax a computer more than others some use more GPU some use more CPU some max out both.

Another thing some cases need air to get under them so a really fluffy rug under your case could reduce airflow.

Full spec including your PSU brand and wattage might help.
