Ship wont sink ? hmm :(
I tried to sink a little flower. Gave it a torpedo right in the front of the ship and saw 20% of it whent down, the rest stayed up and i tought huh... finaly a game where it actually takes time for the ship to sink but i waited 1 hour with time speeded up, nothing happend at all. Then i gave it one more torpedo, more of the ship whent under instantly now 30-40% but it would still not sink, after 20-30 minuttes like that I gave it finaly one more and it sank.. the ship was destroyed after the first torpedo though' but it would just not sink !.....

So i played around with this and discovered that no matter what the ship needs 3 torpedos to sink... what !? why !?.... i loved to se the ship sinks in SH.. :(

I think that was not always the case. Shortly after release, sometimes one was enough.
I hope its a Bug and not connected with Ship "healthbars" like this :/
the game has damage system in place whe you hit with torp guy says how much damage it done is it serius damag or minimal damage.
If minimal damage then thers big chance ship survives and needs another torp to finish it coz they lock bulkeds to prevent total floding of the ship and its still afloat.
Also you can see on ships icones how much damage ships have if torp manages do some fire damage also but done minimal damage fire can in time spread and do more damage and sink ship.
Usually it all depends where ship was struck with torp at what angle, and if it has half or more damage on icon it ususaly sink if only 1/3 then you need to finish it with one more torp or cannon shells.

So far I know the system too, but sometimes the ship is 100% destroyed but it does not sink.
it may go down to 98%, but a little bit always looks over the waterline and does not sink.

i hope u undesrtand what i mean.. eng is not my nativ lang ^^

My point is all men has abandoned the ship and the ship is marked as "sunked" on the map even tough it is still floating, and i could understand if this happend rarely and i can also understand that they lock bulkeds to prevent totalt floding but in case you have a whole at the size of a bus in a small ship like the flowers i think everybody would agree that sob would sink - mabye it would take a whole day but it should sink.. anyways no matter what i did, and what angle i shot my torpedoes at it ( i tried 4-5 times now) it seem like the flower always needed 3 torpedos to sink entirely no matter what i did and no matter what angle i shot from and where i hit.. mabye im just really really unlucky (playing in unstable beta btw but i dont think it has anything to do with it)
they might change the ships ending some ships sink fast some break up some turn and half submerge or float on water but they all destroyed i think last patch or prevovius change to that behaivior dont know is it a bug or is it a feature coz on build 118 and 119 some previev all was sinking.

You don't have to sink them completely. Once a X apears on the map or a radio transmission pops up, the ship is considered destroyed. If you really want them to go completely downunder the cannon will help out.

I once managed to hit flower right in the front as it was following me. After torp impact it began to sink bow-first immediately like one would think it should do. The other day I made liberty class sink with first hit somewhere at starboard side, close to bow whereas freighters as a whole may often take up to 3 torps. All in all it feels very dynamic, seeming to have all kinds of hit zones with many possible outcomes.

Some ships didn't sink in reality or at least took a long time in their agony. Some cargo f.e. was floatable and kept them from sinking, sometimes it was trapped air, keeping it up like a lifevest.

Look the Bismarck, despite it was hit innumerous times it just refused to sink. The crew had to blow the flooding vents. Look the Hood, it was sunk with just one volley. It depends so much not only on the design of the ship, but simple luck / fate. I think this is simulated very real.

Sometimes you drive off, leaving behind just a burning carcass as a deterring memorial and also an indication to your hunters, sometimes the sea covers all evidence of man slaughtering man.

I thought it was RNG damage. I've hit the bow of a corvette head on with a torpedo and it caused serious damage and suck with only 1 torpedo, and other times I've done the same exact torpedo hit on the same type of corvette with 4 torpedoes (all minimal damage) and it just didn't go down.

Anymore I just try to go for a 90 degree angle right onto their sides and avoid the bow/stern attacks. Haven't had it go wrong with those torpedo strikes yet.

Perhaps there's a similar damage system to your own boat, in that water fills various compartments making the ship less and less buoyant. Hit front or rear and there's a higher chance the flooding can be contained to prevent total loss, hit in the middle and the chance is far lower.

All speculation on my part, I don't know how it works. I like that it isn't a set thing though. HP bars and fixed damage ratings for each torp would be rather lame.
