This only works when there is an officer on the scope. As soon as you leave an NPC Will raid the periscope agian regardless
I don't think it is a big thing to fix this, the scopes appear to be the wrong length in orbit view. The Attack Scope is much too tall, at that length it would fold over at more than 3 - 4 knts. (also, where would all that brass fold up into? that little stand? it is just not possible.)
I think all they need to do is change the values around. I can't see a reason to have to change anything else. no animations, no models, not really any code. I do not code for a living so what do I know?... But DWS ... They is smart & may well be aware about it already
I think this might help fix the crews poor periscope behaviour.
It "bugs" me greatly atm, because the way it is now makes the Obs scope useless and that is wrong visually and operationally.
Sorry, I don't intend to come across like I'm on a "soapbox", I'm just saying is all.
I like the game very much and I will put up with all of it... But it isn't right. :)
I heard\read somewhere the Obs scope could be raised from @ 20 m to be ready as soon as the scope broke the surface, agreed though killing bugs is important, but I wouldn't agree it is "eye candy" though. + I would favour a manual periscope control or keys along the old SH lines.
First open the crew menu and go to tasks. Open the sailor tasks and set the Observation Periscope task to 0 for each shift. After you've done that, save by selecting the drop down menu for each shift name and clicking on Save Preset. Navigate to schedule tab and un-select each shift and then immediately select them as active. This will force the changes. Voila! No more pesky periscope above the water. Just remember that no one will be watching the surface when you are submerged and all officers are off doing something else.
Additionally, one thing worth to note is that when your officer mans the Attack Scope the second sailor assigned to him will man the Observation Scope. If that bothers you, simply remove the second one as it only gives extra 5% range for auto-detection.
In my experience, provided you have given right command first, it is just a graphical presentation which does not increase your chances to be detected. In other words you see the animation but it means nothing except keeping one sailor busy.
That being said that bug, right behind the cleaning bug (when the sub cannot be cleaned) annoys me most.
Lets all understand your crew - your sailors - do not need to sleep. I have one 24/7 cleaner/cook/ and a valve officer. Officers need sleep -- sailors don't.

Dirty ship? The 24/7 cleaning guy cannot sweep a room that has water on the floor. Remove the water and you will see him get to work. And it may take a while.

The game does employ crew member executions. My CO got one for sleeping. Raised discipline up to a amazing 25% from 0. nice..... He prefers the choke out instead of talking to sailors who trip. Just that kinda guy. Glad to have him.
Go find a sleeper - there are other choices to make but your other men need to see what might happen.
