How to turn off alarm
Been trying to find such a topic. But, can not find the right answer.

Problem: Enemy freighter is out from my hydrophone. I want to play some music to increase morale. But, the "alarm" is still on.
I try to turn on white light. But, the alarm is still there.
Any idea on how to turn off the alarm?

I try to go periscope depth. Check observation periscope. There is nothing on sight. But again. . . The alarm is still on.

you cant turn it off as long as you have contacts neraby,,,thats all and it suits me fine...

Try to keep a farther distance to the contacts. The alarm is automatically disabled.

Alarm is just indicator that crew has to be on alert, normal thing.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
If you mouse over the contact, you see a red or blue circle. Usually the crew turns to normal after I moved out of this circle.

as a captain of a ship. I believe i should have the ability to say when the alert level is sufficient to stand down from red alert. Especially when the repercussions on the crew are so severe. And it is obvious that all the sunken ships are.. sunken and pose no threat. So yes i agree.. we should have the ability to over ride the alarm.

I agree in general that it would be nice but in terms of gameplay mechanics, being able to over-ride the alarm makes the game far too easy (it's already on the easy side).

The whole point of the crew management is to have the crew ready for action before making the attack, i.e. attacking on high morale and then feeling the pressure of it bleed away as the target makes itself difficult to catch or the wind rises and rough seas complicate things, etc.

If you can turn off the alarm manually the basic gameplay just doesn't work at all - it's integral to the simulation.

its idiotic ,why presence of an unarmed freighter would stress crew? alarm state should be ordered and dismissed by captain or watch officer .

Exactly this. Unless you are being actively engaged by the enemy, the alert state should only come on under the captains order and not cuz of the presence of a freighter.

yes of course under attack stress factor should work ,or when boat is damaged,have low supplies ,casualties etc etc ,but not when we have visual contact on fishing boat or dinghy ;P

Some ppl agree and others didn't.

What if there is "menu option" to choose whether it is controlled (by captain) or not?
After the game start, we can't change it back.

could work of course ,still i think its not matter of optionally giving this possibility ,but reworking stress system at all ,manual alarm settings is just part of it .

I agree. I as Captain should be able to disengage the alarm. I've had issues where we've spotted a convoy and go into alarm. By the time I've maneuvered into position, shot my torpedoes and all targets are sunk, abandoned and sinking my morale is so low that crew members are getting injured. Once all targets in range have been dispatch there should be no alarm or I should be able to turn alarm off.
