UBOAT

If you want to see the Uboat ship in real life
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXiSWPGy_gg

This video is the same model of the Uboat you play in in this game. Now you can see what your crew are living in :)

To keep things into perspective as you're watching this video... That Uboat would have 40-56 crew.... Imagine that..

You're welcome :) Imagine living in that with 55 other people and 4 officers. I knew submarines were cramped, but that's just insane... Now I understand why the term "sardines in a can" was established to describe the living conditions.

The official homepage of the boat (in German): https://deutscher-marinebund.de/marine-ehrenmal-u-995/technisches-museum-u-995/
It's next to Laboe, north of Kiel.

And it's the only original Type VII boat left, all others were sunk (by allies or by own crew at end of war) or were used as targets or have been scrapped after the war. A replica is in the Bavaria Filmstudios (movie studios) south of Munich which was built for producing the film "Das Boot".

A (and the only one left) XXI is at Bremerhaven ("Wilhelm Bauer").

So many things about WWII I can't imagine.. Flying in B-17's and getting shot at, being in a submarine and their insanely cramped living conditions, fighting in the north Sweden/Finnish, and Russia in the middle of the winter with no shelter for weeks. It's hard to grasp what it was really like, but seeing stuff like this on display helps get a shadow of the understanding.

The second biggest catastrophe of WWII besides WWII itself, is how little of these artifacts, and historical vehicles are left for history and the next generations to learn from and understand.
