Who controls the rudder on the surface?
Pardon my ignorance, if any, on the subject of submarines, but shouldn't there be someone controlling the rudder or sitting at the dive controls in the control room, while on the surface too? I only see someone at the navigation table. I'll be able to change directions and move the rudder, but who's controlling it? Is it another station?

It is electric and doesn't need people to control it while on the surface. If you turn it off people will get on it to manually steer. As far as historically I would assume there would always be someone at the controls in any decent sized submarine.

at the top right next to the dive control there is the rudder control to use as the speed of the uboat or the dive

By turning it off I assume you mean the gyrocompass?

I see it's location in the sub, but my question is who controls it? Like it doesn't have a mind of it's own and know what direction the captain wants to go (no sarcasm intended) I'm just confused

Oops my bad. The depth controls also are steering controls. You turn it off if you need to be extra quiet.

If you plot a course and lock it in it can keep going that direction without needing human intervention for some time.

What I mean is I like NEVER see anyone at the controls on the surface... I don't think I turned it off... It's like the boat is turning by itself. Shouldn't there be at least 1 person there to steer?

Yea there is no one to control the rudder. When you give order to set the rudder there is no one who goes to the controls. The change is instant. I think this is a not implemented feature. Like you also cant control dive manually, yet.

Yes I know. The thing is that no one is there when you change the rudder but it turns anyway.
