Swastika flags now allowed in games for German gamers
FYI: The law got changed last year. So depicting Swastika symbols is not an issue any more in video games played in Germany. - Would be nice to be historically accurate now.

Copied here:
If you live in Germany, you'd perhaps be aware of the German version of Inglorious Basterds by Tarantino (or any WW2 movie). All with swastikas.
The reason games were prohibited was that legally a video game counted as a "toy" (wheras movies are considered a piece of art) and that changed last year.
BBC article about it: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-45142651

I could not find anything about Latvia, Poland or Russia regarding a ban on video games for that reason. These symbols are banned in public - as it still is in Germany.

Doesn't matter too much if they do or not, Once we have sdk it can be done in about 5 minutes of texture editing in GIMP or PS
lets worry about the big stuff before small cosmetics.

Dev's are avoiding being fined if your info is incorrect, but also because it's not only Germany that has this law. It causes for too many "different versions" of the game that the dev has to keep updated

@[v]4F: Exactly for this reason, I wrote the post: They are NOT legally prohibited any more!

@Revaero: As far as I am aware of, it is only Germany and the number of countries would be anyway limited. Not sure about Israel and there used to be s.t. in Poland with both communist and Nazi symbols.
Also devs would rely on a legal councel rather than my posting. Just raising awareness.

No, too much effort for very little gain.

Much effort? Changing a flag....you got ideas. Talking bout gain: Many German gamers (significant market) refused to buy Wolfenstein for that very reason.

i don't believe that.
I live in germany, i would have heard about such scandal.
Loken May 6, 2019 @ 12:58pm
Did you not mention having to get it verified and looked into by each country with an issue? check the other thread on it, the dev's said as much. Also L2usethesearchfunction. Already a veeeery long thread relating to the same thing.

Google helps. But as some background info:
Movies never had to do that. If you live in Germany, you'd perhaps be aware of Inglorious Basterds by Tarantino. All with swastikas.
The reason games were prohibited was that legally a video game counted as a "toy" (wheras movies are considered a piece of art) and that changed now.
No scandal.

@Loken: Care to link it? The more threads the better. No fan of the 3rd Reich but it comes across as kinda silly having to see all this inaccurate flags, given the otherwise correct stuff.

common, it's not my claim :-)

even though your explanation sounds plausible

@ждун: That wasn't meant as an insult, but just to independantly verify, in case you care about since you called it a "scandal".

i would rather enjoy the game play, await patches for problems and add content than mess with flags. If its so important to some then waiting for mods should be too much.

So basically younger lawmakers whom actually play changed the laws?

Well, why do you take part in this discussion so? Simply ignore it - so hard?

I'ts been locked, here is the dev post though:

''Hey guys! Once again we will quote our FAQ:

Q: Why no swastikas?
A: It's too much trouble for a small developer. We would have to keep separate builds for countries where they are allowed and countries where nazis symbols are banned. That would delay updates to the game and in case of a mistake we would be forced to pay fines.''
