UBOAT

Diesel engine dead despite plenty of fuel.
Following a mission to give a spare part to another u-boat, my diesel engines switched off and just say "disabled" i gave my engineer spare parts thinking it might damaged somehow, but i dont have any repair options. I still have 63% fuel and im not underwater at all, but i killed my batteries trying to make it back to port. Anyone else get this problem and/or know how to get around it?

Im stuck in the middle of the ocean with dead diesels and a food supply that will start running short. I have sunk 3 vessels 4 if you cant scuttling a dead uboat I found. I fear my patrol shall end in disaster.

Maybe the disabled state activated, after the person left the boat to give the part, so that you can't just drive off. And the game didn't register him coming back. That's the only explanation, I can think of.

Do they need maintienance? I've seen my officers randomly conduct maintenance on the electric motors, don't know if they were broken but they started making spare parts by themselves too, somthing that can only be done from broken components afaik.

Have you tried equipping officers with spare parts etc and tried getting them to interact with the diesels?

Also, from a realism perspective, U-boats used to used the compressed air supply to restart the diesels, if they ever ran out they could have problems restarting them once they reached the surface.

It could be worse, you could loose half your crew in the tutorial due to bad air when trying to solve how to re-surface after taking damage like I did!
Even the tutorial doesnt hold your hand so much if you miss a step. Brutal :) Great game so far.

I'm afraid so, yes. However my situation came about a little differently: I had finished my first Sandbox mission yesterday just fine and docked at port. Did all the usual (refill fuel, check on crew and supplies, accepted a new mission) and then saved and left the game.

As I came back to the game today, my Diesel engine was disabled for no apparent reason whatsoever. I hadn't left the dock nor changed anything else. I figure it's either the refuelling process or simply saving the game that must've corrupted the game state of the engines... Going back to my last save before I returned to the dock "fixes" the issue. However, for me that's a difference of about 2h game time that I'm just not willing to invest again.

Would be interested in a Devs perspective on this, but since this is Early Access after all (and the game is so full of potential!) that I'm more than willing to just wait and hope this gets patched at some point.

i figured it out. On your speed controls, you have two speeds near stop which say diesel engines and electric engines. You have to select the diesel engine option to switch back to diesel.

You are a star! A+! Thanks for sharing the solution :steamhappy:

If you cant use diesels after rising to the water level (till deck, not all the way) and switching to it manualy in controls doesnt work try to rise on higher speed(>1st gear) or with mechanic assigned to the rudders of depth, or both.
