As for sonar shadow, I've hid in the prop wash of cruisers, carriers, and destroyers, and found that as they pass over you, the detection chance falls to nil, which allowed me to rise out of the deep and sink quite a few of these with T5s. Corvettes are a little trickier, though, but there is definitely a detection fall off as they move away from you with their stern facing you.
Also, one Destroyer should remain back pinging while the other ships escape the vicinity of the submarine.
