How do you promote your crew?

No, it just happen, wel no one wil become a officer.

Its got promote on the character appearance change at the bottom but you can never press it

I was able to promote Kohler to Skipper after he had reached level 5 and full xp bar. Keep in mind I was on mission 22 by then November 28th 1941 lol. The game gets more unstable the further you go. So this could have just been a glitch. However Kohler was able to use the Skippers bed and access recruitment and accept missions.

I returned to port after a reasonably successful first mission, only to be told I cannot leave again without promoting an officer to skipper. But none of the promote buttons work.

Promoting crewmen to officer requires 1 XP. You can use your XP for various things, including promotion, under 'Ask for favors' when you meet the admiralty officer at port.

Yes, I understand that, but there were no XP available after the mission.
Things are looking better after the latest upgrade though.
Only other problem, is trying to sort the credentials and reliability of men before promotion. You don't want to promote a trouble maker.

Not all missions grant you XP. Usually the first in the list never does. The second usually offers 66% and the third 100%

Just how do you review your men and their skills? As it appears impossible, except when you review a newcomer at port.
