Operation Drumbeat / Varied U-Boat Types
My apologies if this has been discussed or posted about before. The map makes it clear that the eastern seaboard of the US is "included", but how far will the devs go into Operation Drumbeat? In my opinion, this is one of the most interesting aspects of the U-Boat war in the Atlantic. It blows my mind that German U-Boats operated as far south as Galveston, which is practically in my backyard. I would love to see a fully fleshed out Operation Drumbeat in this game.

It is indisputable that the Type VIIC U-Boat was the most produced and recognizable class in the war, but do the devs plan on implementing any other classes of U-boat? I am specifically wondering about the Type XXI-XXIII electric boats that were introduced in late 1943.

FAQ
It's high time to have a proper FAQ. I will consecutively add most occurring questions here. Hope it helps!

Q: How can I sign up for beta testing and under what conditions?
A: Only Kickstarter and PayPal backers can participate in the beta testing. We invite other players to our upcoming Early Access on Steam.

We are very thankful to everybody willing to participate and are going to do our best to match the expectations!

Q: Why no swastikas?
A: It's too much trouble for a small developer. We would have to keep separate builds for countries where they are allowed and countries where nazist symbols are banned. That would delay updates to the game and in case of a mistake we would be forced to pay fines.

Capable modder should be able to add them literally anywhere he likes to, so the final effect for the end user may be the same.

Q: Are you going to add other types of u-boats to the game?
A: Yes, if game proves to be successful, we would especially like to add XXI Type to the game. We are aware, that historically it hadn't an noticeable impact, but in our game there is some space for altering the history through Kriegsmarine management and technically these boats were a large step forward.

Q: How to submit bugs and ideas after beta testing starts?
A: We will probably setup a Trello board to let you see our progress and vote for bug fixes and improvements. It's easy to use and widely known system.

Q: What is going to be included in beta builds?
A: Beta builds won't contain the whole content from the final game, but most important parts are going to be there like unrestricted sandbox with its missions and first mission of the campaign. Boat management will be fully functional:steamhappy:

Like the FAQ says I'd also like to see the XXI in the game. But also the Type IX which while not as numerous as the VII, was the go to long range U-boat for such extended patrols. Another potential contender I was thinking about was the Type XIV, basically a modified type IXD. Also known as Milk Cows, they were used to resupply the shorter range type VIIs allowing them to operate off the east coast. This would bring up an interesting angle as without torpedo tubes your goal would not be to attack enemy shipping but rather resupply other U-boats. With the emphasis on crew management the game places, this could be feasible. As well as the added peril of Milk Cows being priority targets since sinking one could disrupt the operation of several U-boats in the area. None of the 10 built survived the war as a result.

The Type IX is in game and has been for a long time but its just the dev's have not modeled its insides yet,

I do not see the dev's bothering with xxi and the best we can hope for is for a mod'er to port the xxi model from sh3/sh4 over the Type VII model,

And mod some of the Type VII spec's for more torpedo's and faster under water speeds and faster torpedo reloading.

yeah, starting in a Type II in 1939 and then progressing to the VII, IX and eventually the XXI would be awesome. Also would always give you something to look forward to.

The FAQ did mention the devs wanting to have the XXI in the game despite it's minimal impact on history.

That FAQ was from befor there kickstarter failed to reach its goal so someting had to be cut from the game and that was the xxi.

That FAQ is reproduced here and while we certainly aren't guarenteed to see the ship and it's certainly beyond the scope of the initial game that doesn't mean there won't be post-launch support. It could be either free or paid DLC down the line, for instance, or the game could sell well enough in early access that it makes it in. Not saying people should hold their breath, but unless somewhere I haven't seen they specifically said, "No, we're not even going to try to do it now, no matter how well the game sells" then I wouldn't rule it out.

The subsim community is also pretty dedicated as a whole, so it's not completley unreasonable to think that in the following years it could get modded in either.
