Hire Engineer?
I have the extra Radioman we start the game with, but I really want another Engineer to do research, because I really like having 2 Engineers on board so I don't send them to do research.

Can I hire an Engineer? At La Rochelle there is only yet another Radioman for hiring.

Go on a mission. Every time you return to port visit the recruiter. Replace any dead/ill crew and hire any Officer that may also be available - you must hire them to allow the possibility of getting a different 'type' the next time since there only seems to be the opportunity to hire only 1 officer at a time, and once that officer becomes available for hire they occupy that 1 officer recruiting slot.
