Blight of the Immortals

Blight of the Immortals

Scariest Immortals
Ok so its clear that not all of the immortals are equal. How threatening they are really depends on a lot of things, like what races are available, the size of the map, or when they come out in the game.

A trailerblazer early game will bulldoze your manapool supply before you can really mount a defense, but late game you can just guard the next fountain to intercept him.

Lord of Confusion? Cant really be rooted/taunted/controlled in any way... So just fight him, hes not that strong in a fight.

Ironhide? Again, a tough hero who will be annoying vs people with lots of range, but he needs an army to be scary.

Master of Coin... Now hes pretty scary because of his GLOBAL effect, but you can keep his power down by not using cards for awhile, you can still recruit troops normally so he wont snowball.

Lord of Destruction! Just evacuate your cities when he is near? Thats all there is too it. Could get close and pick him off with range and then return to the city.

Lord of Purgatory i feel like is the least scary of them all. Hes not that strong and he doesnt GET that strong unless you're okay with it. If you've got the armies burning bodies, you've probably got the armies to deal with him and the consequences.

Lich King, again, a global effect thats really nasty, but again you can control it. Cast scarcely until you can snipe this frail hero.

Necromancer lord... This guy can be CRAZY real fast. Many units can deal damage based on the size of a horde, to counter super massive numbers. Some cards deal damage based on the power of units in a group, to counter if he happens to land on a Monster spawn and now hes rolling with 20k power.

BUT THE WORST OF THEM ALL is the Queen of Lies, especially in medium/large maps. Her power is global but you cant control it because its retroactive. It CRIPPLES your expansion power, early game you're dead out the gate, LATE game shes instantly extremely powerful by herself so she cant be sniped. When this thing comes out, all progress halts until its defeated. Unlike most Immortals she has two effects at play. A global cripple and a huge power boost. Unlike the Jester/Lich you cant control her power without basically destroying your own empire. Either she needs to LOSE the power gain so she can be sniped faster, or it needs a localized range of 3 leagues only (for both town cost and power gain)
Shes crazy.

Hey, Dwarfurious and I chatted briefly about this feedback, but I justed wanted to post publicly here that this feedback is really awesome and exactly what we were hoping to get when going Early Access.

We want to give some players more time to play, but we'll soon start thinking about some small tweaks to different units to try and even up the difficulty of the various bosses and cards.

Thanks again Dwarfurious!

It seems like each of the BlightLords is tailored to combat his own race? Looking at the Dread Knight and hes also just not threatening (unless you're human). Its the Global effects that cause specific bosses to snowball, not balanced from a map-size perspective and other conditions. Here's an example going on right now http://puu.sh/r4Z8w/99d89f65b8.jpg
i do not care about this! If its a necromancer lord, hes got nothing to raise. If its a dread knight, hes got nothing to lead. I'll swoop around and kill him later because they dont cripple everyone just by existing

Many of the bosses are indeed tailored to counter their own race.
It's very much true that the threat level of many bosses is very situational. However, i'd say that is a part of the game. Anticipating situations and how to handle them is a major part of the game after all :)

Also, while the Queen of Lies is certainly strong, she's ususally not completely overpowered i think. Even if you get her early game, she's just one boss, and you can often play around her with CC or by burning villages (the orcs specialty).

And if you think a dread knight isn't threatening, you've never seen him lead a massive late-game doomstack, marching towards your towns like an unstoppable juggernaut while all your CC heroes have to twiddle their thumbs from the sidelines :)

Since the boss that spawns is random there is only so much to anticipate. By play around her you mean burn villages so she cant get them? I'd love her to be in attacking distance but if shes days away from anyone then everyone will suffer a lot! Its the valor cost that slows your expansion so much, zombies across the map have it much easier to spread.
Its only a +3 and he doesnt get especially large armies like a Necromancer, or scale like a Jester. Dont play Humans so i dont mind his CC immunity at all! Started a game earlier today that started with a Dread Knight, we'll see how scary he gets but hes really just +3 to zombies and 1000power which isnt a lot
In a smaller 3 player map we started the game with a Master of Coin, its day 3 hour 3 and hes up to +1141 power, which means he's costed us 2282 gold :( and thats when we dont want to spend

Well, its based on the race so it's a coin flip between 2 bosses :)

Also, i forgot about the doubled valour cost. That can indeed be crippeling early on. Don't really have a counter-argument for that...

As for the DK: I do play humans a lot, and CC is often a major advantage for many races, so when this guy comes along it can be quite a pain. Can't really pick the doomstack apart into smaller sections like ususal...
The +3 buff seems mostly to give him some extra teeth and make him more dangerous when the players don't use much CC. He really is more meant for the late-game in a thorougly infested area.

But yeah, the resource bosses are definitely some of the most troublesome in the whole game.
Dwarfurious Sep 9, 2016 @ 4:06pm
I dont have many human cards, they dont have any ranged nukes do they? So they have to fight him. But the boss itself has the power of only 2 stacks of swordsmen! Like in my screenshot, its just a small amount of zombies reaching a pool, so even with a dreadlord they're trivial but if it were any other race of zombie i'd be more worried

They have Blind Justice, which scales off your valour. Other than that, humans don't really have any range. They rely more on CC and leaders.

And like I said, the DK itsself isn't really much of a threat like some other bosses can be. He's meant for late-game where he can gather a big, unstoppable deathstack around him and roll straight at you :)
shde2e Sep 9, 2016 @ 5:45pm
Also, there are quite a few bosses that are trivial to deal with if they are forced into a significant force early on.
Dwarfurious Sep 9, 2016 @ 6:01pm
So in our game we had human necromancers spawn on either side of the map. One hex away from some Giants. Two hex's away from.. More giants! 24k power deathstacks x3 (we stopped them from reaching the 2nd giants)
shde2e Sep 9, 2016 @ 7:10pm
Ah yes, that map...
Have fun with that! :D

I'd reccommend you start using CC ;)
Dwarfurious Sep 9, 2016 @ 7:12pm
pfft. CC's for elves. They'll never breach my walls x3
shde2e Sep 9, 2016 @ 7:48pm
*siege master boss spawns*

Also, Elves don't even have half the CC humans do (not that you have any elves there :P). dwarves and orcs don't even any CC whatsoever though, so i'm guessing you're playing as one of those.

Dwarves or Goblins and sometimes Orcs. And we have the best CC, they're called cannons :3
shde2e Sep 10, 2016 @ 5:35am
you're going to need a lot of them to stop the 40 giant doomstack :3
